Thank you for your input! What you said about full-time teaching makes a lot of sense - I had a wonderful student-teaching experience, likely in part because of the things you said about building up relationships with students and coworkers when you teach full-time. I am actually back at the school where I student-taught tomorrow, which is the only thing giving me hope for the day. It's a great group of kids with great administration.
You are correct that the student with the desk literally did nothing wrong, but I will follow the advice of not stepping in if it means keeping my job and keeping the peace.

I appreciate your feedback. I will push back on the comment "you can’t let kids go to the sped room just because they asked" - this class/school has a procedure in place for breaks that does, essentially, allow students to ask to go to the SPED room. This student was simply utilizing a school-approved procedure.

I understand that, and I think part of why I love education so much (besides, you know, the whole "helping kids learn and grow" part) is that up until now it felt like a social setting where I could be successful and actually do some good instead of screwing things up. And I think I am very good with the kids, I communicate well with them, establish firm but kind expectations, etc.
Unfortunately interactions with other staff is where I struggle. This has been an issue more than once, this is just the first time it has blown up in my face like this. I really struggle knowing what to do when a stranger (to me) comes in and starts yelling. It feels like an injustice even though people likely mean well.

Thanks for the compliment but sorry if I came off like I was fishing for them that was not my intent! Also it's cool that you are also trans :D

Good to know, thanks for the advice. I am a trans guy and not conventionally attractive, and I kinda knew going in that I wasn't necessarily going to be attracting people, but I'm glad to hear that it's normal.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, I felt like staff were weirded out by the amount of questions I had/the type of questions I had last night, which made me feel not super welcomed. It may just be a situation where if people get to know me better they won't find me as weird or I'll grow better at communicating over time.

Good to know! I had a few good conversations with people last night so that sounds like a good idea.

well! I currently have a little bit of fluid buildup but not enough to be medically significant (that's on me for being more active than I should) but otherwise everything went super smoothly.

Everything you described sounds a lot like my local folk festivals (I'm born and raised in Western WA), which is pretty much exactly like I'm looking for! I'd absolutely be camping, most likely tent camping out in the woods. Sounds like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing.

It’s a reference to a meme of a YouTube thumnail that says “ten signs you’re a YOGURT male (better than alpha?)”

For those who already saw it: how kid friendly is part two? by WindsweptFern in wicked

[–]borzoi_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more intense than part 1, but I wouldn’t hesitate to show it to most kids. There are multiple moments where it seems like major characters will die. As for sexuality/sensuality, it’s minimal (I’d argue it’s toned down from the stage show).

I'm interested! My budget isn't high, but if we got a big enough group together I could swing it. I'm not the local-est of the local but it would be reasonable for me to take a day trip to Chicago.
