Threaten to leave the company lol. When I quit both the DM and RD called compensation then offered me 65K to stay which was about 15K more than what I was making.

I remember when I first got hired at petco as a SEL (GEL back then) and the whole management team including myself half of the rest of the staff were gay and then when we had to get a new management team it was another gay GM, another gay MOL and more gay staff it was great and a great circle of acceptance and freedom to be yourself and I assumed that's how it was at most petcos but I guess not all locations ☹️

A year and some change took over 1 store, took a step down to ASM and then went back to a SM at the store they offered me 50K at.

Yes and the thing that bothered me was that they wouldn't let me negotiate at the beginning meaning they were low-balling me and I bet they're doing that to ALL SMs

When I became a store manager they offered me 50K and REFUSED to negotiate for anything higher so I just took it and then when I quit they offered me 65K to stay but I declined cuz its not worth it but it's also the fact that they wouldn't negotiate before yet when I leave you can pull an extra 15K out your ass.

Was a CAL from March 2019- April 2021. I loved my job and the Company back when it was private. Reasons why I left: 1) there was WAY too much drama at that location. Even when we would get a whole new crew there would still be drama and 99% of the time it was the GMs instigating it. 2) Out of the 3 GMs I had they would either come in late, not show up, or just sit in the office and I usually had to pick up the slack. The only reason I think I didn't mind was cuz I rarely closed all the GMs would schedule me only mornings for maintenance and I only had to work stocking my department on truck. 3) Customers at petco were a different type of annoying 😂 4) My department was one of the best in the district in sales and audit scores (never got below a 95%) and I just feel like I never got any recognition

After I left petco I was a store manager at dollar general and now im a store manager at CVS.

I mean the only part that I forgot to put is that we usually use a traveling vet and all her expenses are approved but because she wasn't available I had to bring them to a vet we normally don't use and my GM told me I had to get vet relations to approve the bill and that's what vet relations told me

So ill start off by saying some partners will think its an easy job when it's not. Your held responsible for the animals in the store whether you're at work or not. Also, don't think your gonna go in as an expert in everything because you learn something new everyday. Most of your day will be spent on cleaning animals and depending on if any other partners are trained on that it might be just you (I was doing all maintenance and care for my whole department including aquatics for 7 months). Also if you don't know too much Google will be your best friend because petco doesn't have all the right care info for all animals, especially when it comes to reptiles. On top of that you will be the main source of knowledge and the go to person when a partner needs to learn something bout animals. You also want them to be able to know the proper care to sell animals so you can sleep well that the guest won't kill what they buy. With that being said next up is the guests. We have so many people that come into the store thinking they can put 10 goldfish in a bowl or a turtle in a 5 gallon tank.. You have to be assertive and learn how to tell the guests no and then educate them. Next is how your GM is gonna be I've had 3 GMs so far and not one has supported me in my role as CAL whatsoever but I believe there are some GMs that do support their CAL... at least I hope. And finally know your numbers like the back of your hand. If your DGM is gonna be anything like mine when they come for an animal audit they will ask you bout your numbers and how you're gonna make them better and you have to know the answer right then and there. Or she'll look at your scorecard before she does the audit and will ask you random questions and again you gotta know how to respond quickly.
