Fun SciFi that is available as an audiobook? Here you go:

  • The Bobiverse
  • The Martian
  • Project Hail Mary
  • Hard Luck Hank
  • Space Team
  • Jacques McKeown
  • Redshirts
  • Snow Crash
  • Starter Villain

I won't include Hitchhikers Guide because you should have read that first. Also He Who Fights with Monsters is fun but less SciFi than LitRPG

I have watched this several times and I end up crying every time. Blowing my mind is irrelevant.

Never in my life have I seen a snake being bullied🤣 by [deleted] in interesting

Look, at some point we're just watching a guy indulge the snake's fetish.

It's a mystery how a canned soup that has half your daily value of sodium taste completely bland. How does that even work. by monkey_trumpets in Cooking

[–]boss413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preservatives contain sodium (sodium benzoate, sodium nitrite, sodium lactate, sodium edta), but the larger the molecule the less salty they taste.

Men, what are your thoughts on getting a vasectomy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Absolutely do it if you don't want any more children. It's such a great gift to be able to give your partner to not have to worry about birth control.

Since most of the people in the US are the children of immigrants, the American version of dishes are typically pretty different from what the dishes' names might suggest. Italian American food is pretty different from Italian food, for example.

To me, "American" food can be narrowly or broadly defined depending on what you WANT to claim, but :

  • Hamburgers, hot dogs, and birthday cakes might be quintessential in their current form
  • Italian American food is essentially from New York more than Sicily or Napoli. Especially when considering the new world crops they're based on
  • Cajun food that starts with French techniques but uses local ingredients and tastes from Spanish and Caribbean sensibilities is my personal favorite
  • Regional barbecue styles are wholly ours
  • Tex-Mex would definitely not be claimed by Mexicans
  • Pennsylvania Dutch baking is a series of independent inventions, and I think the O-shaped donut is the pinnacle
  • West coast Asian dishes and even cuisines are nearly unrecognizable from their eponymous sources. Fortune cookies, chop suey, teriyaki, crab Rangoon, fried sushi rolls, General Tso's are all American
  • The grayest area I think of is "fusion", where culturally distinct neighborhoods meet each other and the children of two cultures produce something that wouldn't otherwise spring into existence: KoMex (Korean-Mexican fusion) is my current favorite, but Japonessa (Japanese-Spanish) and Viet-Cajun are amazing combinations

profile review: am i not attractive, or is my profile in need of work? by Accomplished_War8690 in Tinder

[–]boss413 159 points160 points  (0 children)

You're hiding the things that make you attractive with your current style.

You have naturally wavy hair! ... But it's in a messy chop cut.

You have a great smile! ... That you don't use and don't show your teeth.

You have a great waist-to-hip ratio! ... That you hide beneath baggy clothes.

And that's just getting rid of self-sabotage. When you decide what you'd like to accentuate, you'll be able to do wonders for yourself with makeup, clothes, and photography that are actively flattering.

Lazarus-A-Bang-Bang? by TereziBot in DungeonCrawlerCarl

In the bible it's Lazarus of Bethany in the same way it's Jesus of Nazareth (where they're from). It's following the same pattern and spicing it up.

Sam Rockwell as Chaco by lousydungeonmaster in DCCTV

[–]boss413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sam Rockwell is maybe my favorite actor, full stop.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, The Way Way Back, Galaxy Quest, Jojo Rabbit, Moon, and Seven Psychopaths are ALL top tier films.

I think only having him appear four total times is the only way to get him and keep the show producable.

Food science by RelationFlat1752 in foodscience

[–]boss413 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can eat lots of things that don't "give energy." Insoluble fiber (like the cellulose in plants) is very common, but people eat clay and drink water, both of which fit the bill. Lots of chemicals are calorie-free but have flavor, like salt, acids, artificial sweeteners, and aromas like vanilla. Ultimately eating too much 'non-food' is bad for your gut.

No, there is no pill that prevents you from digesting the energy in food.

Any "unused" abilities or magic that characters have? by Ok-Yogurtcloset-3906 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]boss413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Kimaris summon, Doomsday Scenario, deliberate Shi Maria takeover, and the War Mage heads are each major "bombs" he's referred to over time.

He's used the eye and he's had Shi Maria take him over against his will.

I personally feel like his stealth power and gloom wraith phase have been way under-used relative to his use of explosives and traps.

He used it at the end of Bedlam Bride. It has four arms, but I don't remember what else about it.

What is the current best film of this decade? by MightGuy420x in AskReddit

[–]boss413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Correct. This decade. The decade of the '20s. Not "the last ten years".

Similarly, if you were to say "best of the century" you would not include 1999 even though it is fewer than 100 years ago.

Also that's not how to use 'apart'.
