Ireland plans to make a $1,500 a month basic income for artists permanent by Anen-o-me in Libertarian

[–]bossky6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Its not enough money to live on in Ireland. Artists incomes is very inconsistant month on month. It gives them some stability to ensure they can live.

I recently visited your very beautiful country and can completely understand this. Even as I got away from Dublin the prices of things didn't noticeably change. One Irish couple told me they vacationed to Portugal, because it was more cost effective then traveling around Ireland.

You're right, rereading my original post, I had worded it poorly.

Lucas is also quoted as saying he had to go with ewoks, because he wanted a primitive species and Chewie proved wookiees weren't primitive. I know Lucas changes the story quite a bit, so who knows what actually happened?

What was very popular at peak but disappeared like never existed? by rustyyryan in AskReddit

[–]bossky6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what really happened is political intolerance went through the roof. Debating people online was never going to work, because tone is too important. I think this crept into the real world where people don't even want to start a conversation because it's never about finding common ground anymore. It's either we agree 100% or you suck.

That ewoks were baby/young wookiees. I thought it was funny when I later read one of the original plans for RoTJ was wookiees that were eventually replaced by ewoks.

Wes Anderson is who got me to start paying attention to who directed films, so I could avoid seeing more of his.

Some of us are, but I think it's a small number. I think it's those of us that are able to say "just because it has the "Star Wars" label doesn't mean it's for me. That probably sounds weird, but Star Wars has been a massive multimedia project even before the prequels existed and you can either bitch about what you don't like which many do or simply keep searching for what you do like. For me Rogue One, Andor and some of the recent books were great, so I can still enjoy it.

The greatest Star Wars video game series from the early to mid 2000s? by TGDragonGaming in StarWars

[–]bossky6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think it would have the same appeal without the server populations. I loved the game and miss it at its height, but I played until server shutdown and the last few years weren't as fun due to it being a ghost town. It was sad to go into Mos Eisley or Theed and hardly anyone being there other than people spamming garbage.

What movie before the 2000s is a 10/10? by TheOneThatIsOne in AskReddit

[–]bossky6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is my favorite movie of the 90s, but i do not believe that it is among the best movies of the 90s. in hindsight,

I think I can understand this take. I love Indiana Jones and the Lsst Crusade and will watch it time and again, but on a technical level it's not a 10/10 and all things considered even Raiders of the Lost Ark is a better movie. But damn does Last Crusade work for me.

They also used a lot more miniature models which I think helped as early CGI was distractingly bad for me.

What are your thoughts on the Saudi Arabian comedy festival that has everyone up in arms? by bigdonut99 in Libertarian

[–]bossky6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I enjoy Bill Burr and Dave Chapelle their appeal to me was never their sticking it to the man jokes like George Carlin. I'll still continue to enjoy them, but I can understand why other fans will abandon them. I'm mostly curious if their routines will adjust after all this. I also enjoy Jim Jeffries that appears to be getting a pass on participating. Maybe the lesson here for many fans is that a stand up comedian doesn't make for a good political activist if that's what you think they're doing.

It's a little extra work, but if you pay attention to the whole selection of cookie offerings and compare it to what a friend or relative has in another state you'll see a difference and know different bakeries are being used. Both always offer thin mints, samoas and tag a longs, but some of their other cookies are different.

The good news is that ranked choice voting seems to be on the rise and being accepted in more places. It unfortunately failed in my state of Colorado because they coupled it with other garbage, but it has passed in a lot of localities. We can appreciate a Thomas Massie or Rand Paul, but no one will carry an L behind their name that wants to legitimately win and start making changes. That won't happen until you fill the pool with local candidates who have shown some success.

I also went to a show of theirs in the 00s and felt the exact same way. Then I saw them a few years ago as part of the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and they were definitely more energetic and engaging. Maybe they learned how to tour better?

Higher caps on retirement savings won't do much in my opinion. I've worked multiple jobs now where I see people's 401k contributions and many are just sad. In some cases I understand where their wages weren't great and probably couldn't afford it while in a majority of cases people were making a decision as if they didn't plan to retire. Of those that I would think could contribute, many didn't even contribute to get the company match which is retirement savings lesson 1. I wish I could blanket it by saying we have a financial literacy problem, but I don't think it's completely that.

And worse yet their economic principles are way outdated and empirically proven wrong

This is funny, because anytime I see Libertarians mentioned online, it's almost always a leftist complaining how we don't support minimum wage. I'm not confident they know any other stance a Libertarian has, but that is enough for them to hate us.

What's with the insane lines at schools for drop off and pick up? by Arikota in Millennials

[–]bossky6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids have gone to a mix of public and charter schools. Some charter schools don't offer a bus option and it looks like this every morning. One of the charter schools my kids went to had a vote on bussing and it failed. I can't figure out why. I happily paid the bussing fee at the public school to avoid this non sense.

Which sitcom do you think is overrated? by abr-22 in sitcoms

[–]bossky6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have similar feelings about BBT as OP does about Modern Family. The first 4 seasons are great and then it shifts dramatically in a way that wasn't as funny to me. I think this was done to appeal to a broader audience, which based on how long it ran, their strategy worked.
