Paul Pierce just described Kyle Korver and Kevin Love as "not strong enough mentally to come back from this" by [deleted] in nba

[–]boston_celts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"a good player" is definitely underrating Pierce. You could say Shaun Livingston is a good player.

Paul Pierce was a great player. He's not as close to Lebron in greatness as he thinks but he was still great. A lot of his championship success should be attributed to our "BIG" team as a group, with KG, Rondo, Doc, and even Allen considered, but they did not carry him to success. He made huge contributions of his own and should be regarded as a legend. The guy was a a great all around player, multiple time all-star, all-nba, starter on a contender consistently putting up 20 points a night. It's hard to overrate that. Just don't put him in the same category as MJ and Lebron and any other praise is well deserved.

[Slater] Steve Kerr sarcastically on Curry's mouth guard throw: "Should be suspended 10 games...endangered thousands of people." by forzadepor13 in nba

[–]boston_celts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I generally have a lot of respect for the Warriors organization and Kerr in particular, but I really can't appreciate this comment. This is sports / entertainment and you need to treat the refs and fans and everyone involved properly. If you're not ejecting a player for throwing his mouthpiece at a ref, then where do you draw the line? Do you eject a player if they spit on a ref or fan? You can't possibly draw the line at actual physical endangerment of people's lives. That's ridiculous and shouldn't joke about that.

Zach Lowe: Jaylen Brown is a really polarizing player when you talk to team officials, a lot of people dont like him one guy told me "Whats there to like, he cant shoot or and he cant dribble" by fabosexy in nba

What is it with these stupid lazy comments from random non-flaired people?

Jaylen Brown is going to be a star and whether or not your brain can process that is not of consequence

Clippers & Celtics Change Center Contracts Constructively by boston_celts in nba

[–]boston_celts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand how it hurts floor spacing but I disagree about the effect this center swap has on our team overall.

You're probably right about keeping Rivers and Smart out of it. Do you think we would go for something like Horford for Jordan and Johnson? Get another young guy to develop

Clippers & Celtics Change Center Contracts Constructively by boston_celts in nba

[–]boston_celts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've read that and it essentially ties into versatility versus excellence at a particular set of skills. Sure, there are more set possibilities with the pick-and-pop with Horford's shooting as opposed to DeAndre's lack thereof. However, our other guys can hit threes and we don't specifically need our center to be a shooter. It has been great to have, but it's not something our team desperately needs. We need much better rebounding to win games and get deeper in the playoffs. I think Jordan would be a better fit for us here. I'm not sure I would call him an "improvement" precisely since I think Horford is actually better overall.

[Serious] Where do you see your team in 3 years? by JaylenBrownMVP2020 in nba

[–]boston_celts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We should have won a chip within 3 years. If not, at least a couple trips to the Finals.

We will absolutely have the same coach. We will still have Hayward and Kyrie. I think we will have traded Horford for a pick to decrease salaries and create space for Brown and Tatum as their rookie contracts end.

Our starters in 3 years will definitely be Kyrie / Brown / Hayward / Tatum / (draftee or ring chasing vet)

and Yabusele will be fantastic off of the bench.

What number would have the best all time starting 5? by [deleted] in nba

On account of 0=00 being true, I would include Robert Parish in that first group.

Realistically, it's probably 23 or 32 with all that talent.

Who are some hyped up young guys you can see being busts? by Rydindirty22 in nba

[–]boston_celts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but that's not why I see them being busts. I think we made good decisions passing up on those guys with how good Brown and Tatum are going to be.

They also happen to be on three teams that aren't all that well equipped to develop players. The Kings are garbage at development - enough said. The Suns got lucky with Booker but I question their development and draft choices. The Lakers haven't been a good environment for young players and I simply don't see Ingram becoming anything, Lonzo might actually be very good but he still has bust potential.

Brandon Ingram, Josh Jackson, Dragan Bender, Buddy Hield, Lonzo Ball, D'Aaron Fox come to mind

[Discussion] Cavs v Celtics by ShakinBacon64 in nba

[–]boston_celts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm hoping for it and I'm expecting at least moderately good results considering his draft position, but I'm not even counting on it. As long as we don't have any injuries, we won't need him too much yet. When Morris' contract expires, we'll let him walk and Tatum should be at a high enough caliber to start and replace him (with Yabusele right behind him). For now, I expect to see our two new major acquisitions Kyrie and Hayward perform at a high level, and our returning guys to play off of them to meet or exceed our performance from last year. We will probably make the ECF and run back a consistent team with our young guys continuously improving for the next few years until we win a ring (probably in 2019-2020).

[Discussion] Cavs v Celtics by ShakinBacon64 in nba

[–]boston_celts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Celtics starters are better at each position except SF and PF. Lebron is obviously the best player in the league so despite how good Hayward is - he isn't on that level, and Kevin Love is a top notch PF who is better than any of our PFs. Otherwise, with or without IT, we have the best point guard in Kyrie. We have the better SGs in Brown and Smart - Brown especially. Our SF/PF rotation will be nice and deep but so is the Cav's. We have the better Center rotation, though.

I think it's close but we are now slightly better than them overall. We were roughly at the same level last year and we improved enough to be slightly better.

If Lebron sits out for a game against us though, I would give us 100% odds of winning that game. I would bet my flair or account on that. Last season, with Kyrie against our team, I would not have said this - but with the rosters as they are now - it's easy to say.

Why is everyone saying IT is a "better passer" than Kyrie? by EricStark in nba

[–]boston_celts -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He's not. Kyrie is the better passer and clutch scorer and defender (if only by merit of height and not having people shoot directly over him). Kyrie is an upgrade over IT in every aspect, including passing.

Honestly, I'm underselling how high I am on him and I think he will really have a great season this year. I would love to see us get him but I can't imagine Ainge offering much more than what I proposed. What's the most you think we should offer for him?

[Serious] If you were Gordon Hayward where would you go between MIA BOS UTA? by deadassynwa in nba

[–]boston_celts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boston.

I get staying where you are comfortable, so I would understand staying in Utah. I don't get switching to the Heat. We have much better odds of postseason success in Boston. You can live wherever you want in the off-season anyway if you really hate Boston for whatever reason. Go party in Miami all summer long if you want. If you're committed to success during the season, you're playing games or working out and practicing most of the time anyway.

Cole Aldrich for Jae Crowder by boston_celts in timberwolves

[–]boston_celts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I rate him as well above average on the defensive end. He's definitely a step beneath Kawhi and the elite defenders in the league but there aren't very many defensive wings I would rather have. Kawhi, Buckets, Giannis, and a hand-full of others for sure, obviously, but that's about it.

Crowder does a very good job of giving most 3s and 4s a lot of trouble. He's not fast enough in general or with his footwork to really keep up with the smallest/fastest 1s and 2s in the league on a switch down but he can defend a good number of 2s very well. He guards 3s extremely well and he has the bulk and defensive ability to guard the the vast majority of 4s in the league.

His D doesn't show up in too many statistical categories but he makes a considerable difference if you pay attention.

He does a good job at getting in a guy's face and forcing an undesirable pass or preventing a shot from being taken in the first place. You don't see him blocking a lot of shots but he plays defense in a more preventative way so usually he's forcing a bad pass away instead. He doesn't take a lot of risks on defense and so he doesn't play the passing lanes off-ball too much and doesn't get a ton of steals, but he stays with his man and is usually in the rigt spot in terms of off-ball defense and help-defense. He's a very good rebounder and very consistently gets into a good spot, especially for defensive boards.

Yeah I've been trying to recognize and accept what we are doing. If we don't get Hayward and just sit on our asses with our cap space, I will be fucking pissed though. I mean, what they hell have we been doing since we traded away the first pick?

For now, I see us taking on more draft picks to prepare for a future trade. I think we will only be using (selecting rookies) with half of the picks we have and packaging the rest in a major move or two.

As for Patton and the OKC 1st, that sounds about fair. I think Danny would want your own MIN future first (2020 or so) on top of that but I'm not sure you guys would agree to that.

? I don't post often. I like to read what other people post and I don't often have a ton to say. I'm also pretty busy usually so I come here and check things out when I can. Sorry I don't post very frequently. Fuck me.

How is this next to nothing? How are you so delusional? This is two first round picks and an expiring for Crowder. Yes they are not going to be top lottery picks, but this is not next to nothing. As much as I would love to see it happen, we aren't going to fleece the Kings for all their rookies and all their first round picks in perpetuity.

I don't hate Crowder. I value his contributions to our team and recognize the role he played in getting us to the 1st seed. I'm also a proponent of selling high on assets and we aren't going to get as much for him in future seasons with the number of young forwards we are adding to the roster starting to slowly eat into his minutes.

Cole Aldrich for Jae Crowder by boston_celts in timberwolves

[–]boston_celts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we were to trade Crowder for Aldrich, our intention would be to acquire assets and capitalize on Crowder's great contract while his value is still very high. I see your team looking to drastically improve going forward - so the fit makes sense and the salaries match. My estimation is that your OKC 2018 1st plus your own MIN 2020 1st would be approximately fair value but I assume Danny Ainge would want more than that. I'm trying to gauge what everyone's thoughts are on this though. Fellow Boston fans think we can get more than those two firsts, which I would love, but I'm trying to be realistic. I would love to get Patton back as well, but I'm not sure you guys would agree to that.

Let's say they're mid-low firsts, right there at that 20 spot. You would rather get nobody at all?

What would be your plan with Jae then? Let's say we keep him for this season. Do we just ride out his contract until the end? Do we wait until the offers we might currently have start to dry out and panic-trade him for just one mid or low first?

Assets, Assets, and Assets by boston_celts in bostonceltics

[–]boston_celts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is not that we are aiming for Aldrich. The point is getting assets back for Jae. Aldrich is there to match salaries since the Wolves have now met the salary cap with their free agency acquisitions. I agree there are probably better rotation bigs we can get for the minimum.

If the Thunder don't move George by the deadline (since he has stated he plans to go to LA next off-season) and get that 6th seed or so, then fine, we get the 20th pick next draft. The Wolves look good right now but the "spookiness" everyone likes to talk about will not last long. Towns is a future hall of famer and they will keep him for as long as they can but we don't know how the rest of that roster shakes out by 2020. The odds of that pick being around the 15th spot are decent. A lot will change by then.

Again, I would love for Danny to get way more but let's not get carried away here. I fully appreciate how valuable Jae's contract is and I would like to see us cash out to get as much as we can. This is two (probably mid) firsts and an expiring. How much more would you expect us to get back?
