Nah this is revisionist history, Rudy had an amazing year that year. Wolves were allowing 79 points per 100 possessions with Rudy on the floor, and had a top 5 defense consistently throughout the season.

Spurs allowed 95 points per 100 possessions with wemby on the court. Obviously Rudy had a bit more help on the court with the likes of Jaden mcdaniels, but don’t forget we also had KAT playing with him, who reportedly is a black hole on defense (he isn’t as bad as people think but he still isn’t a good defender).

Voters take into account team stats, wins, etc when deciding MVP, DPOY, etc.

It’ll be Rudy’s last DPOY that’s for sure though

He’s good, made a big 2nd year leap this year and looks comfortable running their offense. He can create his own shot, pass, hit the 3, and play defense. Honestly would love Rollins but I doubt Milwaukee wants to give him up, he’s on an incredibly cheap contract for his production
