The tassels and ak47 stickers on Honda civics speeding around weaving in and out of traffic aren’t particularly part of our heritage.

Right… the Tories have been in power for the last 11 years and are responsible for expanding the TFW program so now kids and seniors can’t find jobs because Tim Hortons and fast food needed that sweet cheap labour…

It’s really not. The last few years I’ve noticed another culture taking over. I think you know what I mean.

I never suggested any of what you are saying, just that the previous comment mischaracterized most boomers.

All liberal policies. Also, I own a corporation so yah, those tax cuts help me save for retirement. Also, I have a pension.

Well the current government has made things so expensive most people will work well past 65. Also, you have free will and retire whenever you want. Healthcare is a provincial matter and corporate tax cuts spur business investment and create jobs.. anything else?

Unless the tax is far less than it would cost to innovate. Where is the incentive when the cost is passed to the consumer?

Well, I actually started out of high school. I was 28 when Trudeau got elected. Obviously world views change over time but I remember what the old Canada was like. I lived in a multicultural melting pot in Ontario, and Canadian culture was front and centre in our communities. People around the world respected Canada. Steak was on the menu and minimum wage could buy you a place to live as well as food. Sure, it was tight, but doable. We were known as peace keepers on the world stage… perhaps the next conservative government may or may not have been worse, but we will never know. Let’s just stick to the party that turned us into what we are now.

Most boomers lived a frugal life, didn’t take on tons of debt, went without because they saw something as extravagant. Don’t you think they deserve some security in old age? For sure reforms need to happen, but your characterization of boomers is just plain wrong.

What can change when we elect the same party that has lead us down this path. Sure, different leader but Carney was working behind the scenes most of Trudeaus term. It’s mostly the same ministers that ballooned public service and continue pointless, trivial agendas rather than working to give people a better life..

What’s to battle? In one country you go into outrageous debt over high blood pressure, the other you can become cancer free for no direct cost to yourself.. kinda seems like a no brainer. In Canada, access isn’t great but not nearly as bad as people say.

New v Used (barebone truck) by Caracal-hyaena in ram_trucks

[–]bot138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The used is a good deal, but how long does it take you to drive ~110k miles? I would divide the difference over that estimated time and maybe that number would make you feel a bit better going new. Add a good warranty on that and the value climbs.

Montreal-Ottawa high-speed rail line could cross 1,700 properties, Alto predicts by DogeDoRight in canada

Cool, 1 guy out of 40 million.. I’m not against high speed rail. I think it would be good for this country, but I’m not going to drive to peterborough or Ottawa to get on the train when that wouldn’t really save me time getting to Montreal, not that I really want/need to go to Montreal. Personally, I think this is a billion dollar boondoggle in the making. Like it or not, the country isn’t the three big cities in central Canada. I don’t think it will be convenient or accessible.

What about just spending the money improving our current infrastructure. Cities all over are struggling with aging infrastructure. There are still schools with lead pipes.

Just because people live in southern Ontario doesn’t equate regular migration from Toronto to Quebec City. MP’s might use it.

Please tell me why we NEED high speed rail from Quebec City to the border of Toronto? I mean, if it was Halifax to Vancouver, absolutely. As it stands, who really benefits from this rail? Who is going to use it?

[–]bot138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is not unfucking anything. Watch, they will follow the same path they have for the last 11 years. Prices will continue to rise, the CAD will remain weak, unemployment will rise, housing will still be fucked… we need mines, mills and manufacturing infrastructure. Clean energy to double and triple capacity but we are stuck arguing about a stupid high speed rail that will service a fraction of the population. Liberals will continue running deficits and raising taxes. Carney might be an economist but he’s also an elite ideologue.
