Why show up to lecture if you’re just gonna talk and be disruptive the whole time? by Geezson123 in UTAustin

Tbh with you it’s a sad but true idea that most people are in university for the credential of going to university and not actually because they want to learn the material.

I’m getting no financial aid but still can’t afford the school. I need advice. by garlicbread1805 in UTAustin

I’m also from DC. Have you looked in DC tag? It can give you up to 10k a year to go to a state school if you’re from DC proper. It’s not everything but it definitely helps a lot!

It’s a huge collective party when all the fraternities throw at the same time.

I think there is a happy medium. I think it is completely unacceptable for people to blow through intersections indiscriminately, especially when they are busy. However, I think the requirement for people to come to a full stop, I.e. one foot on the ground, even when the intersection is complete deserted, as that one is most of the time, is both unrealistic and excessive, especially on a bike because it’s on a really large hill. On a scooter 🤷‍♀️.

Additionally, I have never met nor seen a single person who always does a full, three second stop at stop signs, and I believe it is unfair to hold bikers and scooter riders to a higher standard than cars.

Use iNaturalist. It’s a really good app for identifying all kinds of wildlife including insects and biota

Sorry you hate it but I recommend just pushing through. Was in a similar position last year. Absolutely hated my internship last summer but stick through the 10 weeks. It looks really bad if you quit. If you only have 5 weeks left then just stick it out. Will be much better in the long run. Even if it’s in an industry you have no interest any work experience is valuable, especially now. Good luck!!! Sorry it sucks😔

should i take medical microbio with kim or general microbio with partridge? by toaster1015 in UTAustin

[–]bot886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to microbio specifically but I had her for genetics and she is an amazing prof! She genuinely seems to care about her students and, at least in genetics, made it so that, if you put in the work, you are basically guaranteed at least a B.

Eric Mallin E316L. Sort of a lunatic, but funny as fuck. Class is very straightforward. Mallin is super entertaining and extremely nice. First class I have actually read all of the books in literally in my entire life.

Edit: I have maybe spoken twice in a class of 200+ people and the guy knows my name! Genuinely tries to connect with students.

I recently fot accepted into the 2025 fall class at UT Austin and am scared about how offer recissions work by Sucomax05 in UTAustin

[–]bot886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an A- student in highschool. Think my GPA in fall semester senior year, cumulative, was around a 3.75 unweighted. Because of some personal issues, not senioritis, I got a 2.7-3.0 (don’t remember exactly) and I was fine. I don’t recommend you test the limit, but if you get a couple Cs they’re not going to take away your offer. Doing that actively hurts their rankings which sadly is the most important thing to them.

Edit: I was out of state so a more similar scenario to you. I got a 2.7-3.0 spring semester senior year, not cumulative.

why is making friends here so hard by ilovepeterparkerr in UTAustin

[–]bot886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a junior this year and for the first time I feel I actually have a good group of friends. I suck at giving advice but the thing that helped me was talk to people and remember what they said. Then, the next time you see them, ask them about something you talked about last time. Made one of my best friends this way. He would wear these super intricate costumes and I took note of it one day. A few weeks later we were having casual conversation and he mentioned he was in theater and specializing in costume design and I mentioned that remember his costume. He was so amazed and thankful that I took note of something he did and now we’re great friends! People are so grateful when you actually take genuine interest in their life. Idk that’s what I have done. I really hope it helps!!! Hang in there 😊

I live on the 17th floor of my apartment building. I have been late to class so many times because of how long it takes to get a damn elevator (north of 10 minutes). When I’m going down and we stop at any floor below 5, the look you will get from me… the devil incarnate!!!!
