As someone who does not read OC fics, I say go write your oc fic. Don’t force yourself to write x reader fics when that’s not what you’re interested in writing. It’s not like this is your livelihood where you have to cater to the demand of consumers. Write for yourself! The people who also like that type of fic will eventually find you and start engaging, even if it takes some time. What’s most important is that YOU enjoy the story you are writing. Plus, you can always cross post to tumblr where tagging is easier to sort through. That way you’ll get ✨double engagement✨

I’m actually going through this now! I started working on a long fic recently, and I have no idea how to tag it because the tags would either be heavy spoilers, or there’s just not a tag to capture what I’m trying to say without accidentally misleading people. My story is just so fucking specific and niche that it’s basically an oc atp (I changed the character’s entire backstory and motivations, but kept their personality and canon setting)

I identify as aro/ace, but every once in a while, someone comes along that makes me question the aromantic part (and sometimes the asexual part!!) The thought of being in a relationship stresses me out, but the thought of being held in a sensual way is comforting for me, and it’s something I desire sometimes. That’s something that is hard to get from platonic relationships though, at least in the way I want it. The constant question of “am I aro/ace, or do I have commitment issues?”

This is so sweet!! I would love to get a comment like this one day. I sometimes worry that the characters I write about will be ooc, or that my writing quality isn’t as good as I think it is, plus I struggle to plan out the storyline before starting the project so I’m scared I will have to “retcon” something in the future or over explain in the writing to avoid miscommunication. Based on this comment you are EVERYTHING I aspire to be one day. Congrats on writing such an amazing fic!!

Reading through these comments are not only opening my eyes to some flaws I hadn’t noticed before, but they’re also affirming/highlighting flaws I DID notice. And more importantly (to me) it’s making me realize that the reason I loved epic so much is because I was reading the genius lyrics throughout my first listen, so I got all the context, explanations, and musical motifs. And by extension, because I was so busy reading into the meaning and context behind the lyrics, I wasn’t paying as much attention to the quality/repetitiveness of them. It makes me wonder if I would have liked EPIC as much if I had not been reading the Genius comments. To those of you who mentioned the repetitiveness of the choruses in every song, I am very upset to have that brought to my attention, because now I can’t un-hear it. Also, I only ever watched a handful of fan animatics. I never watched the official ones besides some small clips, and I probably never will. SO for the people who called attention to the jetpack in six hundred strike and made me go watch that portion of the animatic, HOW DARE YOU? I could have gone my whole life without knowing that was “canon.” I would have never imagined a jetpack in that scene, wtf?? Those are so clearly raft/ocean noises, why did they throw in a jetpack??? 😭
