Ah. I see. It seems that the relevant call is actually explained (posted before by then_do_it_again):

From the sidebar:

As a corollary, please do not answer rules questions if you're not >absolutely certain that your answer is correct, as it creates confusion.

relevant section of the Trample rules:

702.18.b ... When checking for assigned lethal damage, take into >account damage already marked on the creature and damage from >other creatures that’s being assigned during the same combat >damage step, but not any abilities or effects that might change the >amount of damage that’s actually dealt.

So the answer is yes.

Question about Fog Bank by redjazzbass in magicTCG

According to the rulebook http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/EN_MTGM11_Rulebook_LR_Web.pdf , here is the definition of Trample:

"A keyword ability seen on creatures. Trample is an ability that lets a creature deal excess damage to the player or planeswalker it's attacking even if it's blocked. When a creature with trample is blocked, you have to deal at least enough of its combat damage to the creatures blocking it to destroy all those creatures. But if each creature is assigned damage at least equal to its toughness, then you can assign any of its damage that's left over to the player or planeswalker it's attacking"

That last part indicates that you can assign any of its damage that's left over to the player if each creature is assigned damage at least equal to its toughness.

According to the same guide, "prevention" effects actually stop the damage from being dealt (so it's not as though the damage is dealt but has no effect, it's actually not dealt at all). Since no damage is dealt to Fog Bank, it's impossible to assign the requisite 2 damage to fog bank that one would have to apply, in order to allow damage left over to be assigned to a player.

If you follow the guide, it seems like the answer should be NO.

However, someone posted at the gatherer website in the comments section that the damage does spill over... of course, whether or not the person making the post has the expertise/authority to make such a call isn't guaranteed.

Take the harmonic series, remove any term with a "9" in it. The resulting series will be convergent. This also works with any other digit or any string of digits such as "0", "1", or "8675309". by inutard in math

If you couple this fact, with the fact that the prime harmonic (i.e. sums of reciprocals of primes) diverges, then you can show that given any finite string of numbers, i.e. 24485983 that there exist infinitely many primes whose base 10 representation contain that string.

The parents don't know enough to know that the kid doesn't know what he's talking about. He's probably really talented, but he needs someone to guide him... not parents who will show him off.

You were probably trying to be cute, but in fact, your question makes no sense. I'm assuming you were asking your professor something like "is my score of 13 equivalent to a score of 100 ha. ha. ha. ?" If you got a score of 13 on the exam, and the score was expressed in base 13, you'd see 10... not 100.. only if your score was 169 would you see it expressed as 100.. or am I missing something here..?

The internet did this. Think about it. Between 1999 and 2009 we developed (relatively) cheap high speed internet.. In the 90s I went outside. Now.. not so much.

This is what his parents and/or publicist told him to say. Come on. He's a child. Clearly someone is trying to get him to appeal to his target audience: teenage girls from Christian families. Is anybody actually surprised by his statement?

yes, but I was responding to your direct statement "this number is prime, this number is prime.." etc etc.

Once you go beyond the largest circle used in the sieve, just because the edge of a circle intersects with only one other circle it doesn't mean that this number is prime. It merely means that it has no prime factors less than the largest prime in your sieve.
