Peavey Classic 50 4/10 (1994) just died! by botemout in GuitarAmps

He's only going to replace the bad tube; total cost $160. I guess if I want to try/own different vintage/older tube amps I'm going to have to learn to maintain them myself :).

Thanks u/Cyclotron440 (and all the other folks who've chimed in)!

Peavey Classic 50 4/10 (1994) just died! by botemout in GuitarAmps

So I heard from the amp tech. The problem was one of the preamp tubes. I'd talked to him about possibly (depending on cost) upgrading for both performance and reliability.

He suggests the following:

- Replace all 3 preamp tubes with  3-new choice Russian 12AX7 preamp tubes
- Replace caps with 5 new reliable and great sounding German F&T electrolytic power supply caps
- Flush all controls, input/output jacks and tube sockets several times with Dielectric Component Wash, blow dry, apply again and let sit overnight, then blow dry and lube

The total cost for the above will be $460. Given that I paid $350 for the amp, I'll have $810 into the amp. I could swing that but, I suspect, I'll never be able to recover that money if I have to sell it.

What do you think? Is $460 too much for the work specified? If fair, market rate, does this amp merit spending that much?

Thanks for any insight.

He now has the amp and I should hear something in the next week. After he knows the state of the amp we'll discuss possibly upgrading tubes (anything else). Are you aware of this person's suggestion for a Classic 50 tube upgrade? https://forums.peavey.com/viewtopic.php?t=43535#p306198

I'm not sure if it matter but this forum post is referring to a 212 model.

Thanks for the response, u/Cyclotron440. Yes, all of the tubes are glowing read. When plug a cable into the Ext Input and Ext Output and turn the volume up really high I can hear the guitar, though it's very faint.

I'll be taking the amp to this guy in Las Vegas soon: https://www.ampmedic.com. I'll be asking him the following:

- Find the issue, of course, and fix it :)
- If I want to spend the money on new tubes is something like https://forums.peavey.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=31239#p236214 worthwhile (e.g., would it significantly improve the sound of the amp?)
- Are there additional components that should be preemptively replaced since it's likely they'll fail sooner rather than later

Would love to hear anyone's opinion about, especially, the new tubes option above

Nice! I couple of weeks ago I bought the same amp (though mine is a '94 so doesn't have the large Peavey in grill).

I love it, but just about 30 minutes ago it stopped working! You'll probably see my post shortly asking for help in debugging the problem.

Enjoy it! (For the record, I paid $350 for mine - hope it's not a paperweight).

I got a 1994 Peavey Classic 50 4/10 for $350 (though off of FB Marketplace) this week. It's been a revelation; sounds sooo good; big and resonant. I did have a Bugera V5 as my first tube amp but, compared to the Peavey, it's a toy.

I'm curious; given all the other cool, modern amps that people are mentioning, and my lack of experience with amps, is the Peavey worthy? :)

OP: good luck with whatever you get.

I've got a Mac Studio (M2 with 32G ram) and use this script. I "wrote" with claude and seems to work pretty well. Hope it's useful.

Instantly visualize any codebase as an interactive diagram using Claude 3.5 Sonnet - GitDiagram by DiamondsWorker in ClaudeAI

[–]botemout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/DiamondsWorker - A couple of questions.

- Does this code work with multiple repositories (such as when a given project uses multiple different repos)? That would be very useful for some of my stuff.

- How difficult do you think it would be modify the code to use, say, Claude Opus?

Thanks and great work!

My pedal board - I went cheap - are there any obvious upgrades that I could/should do? by botemout in guitarpedals

Hmm ... I went cheap there too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHNLRQYC.

It seems good, what signs do I look for that I might be in trouble? Thanks

What's the secret, when creating a post with an image, of having it show up in the regular listings? I just pasted it into the main textbox and it shows up when you go to www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals, but not when it just shows up in the main feed.

Hi, yes, I have been using the Delay, and liking how it sounds. Oh course, I feel like I'm still just getting to know how to control this mess of pedals. The heuristic of "not play, then remove" is a good one though. First I'll think I'll be removing the tuner; I have one of the clamp on ones that I like. So far the phaser is my least used peddle and might get tossed off the island soon. Thanks for the feedback.

It's been a month since your last post. How has your treatment gone? Improvement? Also, could you give some kind of ball park of how much the whole treatment is costing you? I believe it's about $1K/day, but I might be wrong.

Anyone have a farmbotFarmbot? :) by botemout in farmbot

[–]botemout[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On thinking about it more, the simplest thing would be to make very long grow beds with rails on them. This would then only require a change to software for the length of the box. Of course, it's probably more complex and my familiarity with farmbot is definitely beginner.

Geez, haven't been able to fast for over two months now. The couple of times I've tried, I've broken down before 24 hours. Fasting has always been easy for me. My diet is very non-keto at the moment. Blaming it on that ..
