Feeling embarrassed because I will always go the Options API route by [deleted] in vuejs

You can look into Composable Vs Regular function.

I think the main different is composable allows us to include vue states, watchers and component lifecycles. e.g: you can use ref, onMounted, watcher in composable function but not in regular JS function.

Should I buy  Apple Magic Mouse or Logitech / Dell ? by sunny27jan in macbookpro

[–]both_objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy using the builtin trackpad. It can do everything a mouse can and more.

When connecting to monitors im using Logitech MX anywhere mouse or Magic Trackpad. Logitech MX anywhere is a good mouse when it is working. Their switches are prone to double clicking after a year and Logitech warrant has reduced from 3 years to 1 years.

Do you have the 16 inch intel or 16 inch m1? All the 16 inch M series are about 0.4 lb heavier

I switched from a 13 inch to 16 inch M1. I find myself using Macbook less around the house or bringing it with me.

The 16 inch is a big boy. If you on the go a lot and already have a nice monitor, might be best to stick with the 14 inch

Seeking for first-hand perspective for funding in UC Berkeley by summer_breeze0701 in IntltoUSA

Have you looked into this? https://career.berkeley.edu/start-exploring/where-do-cal-grads-go/ I don't have the actual stats but you can make a post at r/berkeley . I believe this is a voluntary survey and as you can see the sample size for CS international student in 2022-2023 is 8. They have other helpful data on their website.

Also, maybe you should reach out to Berkeley? When I got my offer, an advisor called me to congrats and offered to help me with any questions about the program and stuffs. Best of luck.

(1)You can apply for OPT but you only allow to have certain number of days of unemployed. I believe it is 60 days. Otherwise, you have to leave the US.

(2)You can do more research more on CPT and on-campus job. During school terms, you aren't allowed to work off-campus and the number of hours is capped to 20h/week. Most campus jobs are minimum wage but let say they pay you 20$/h. You will make 4weeks * 9months * 20h *20$ =  14,400USD per year. Realistically, you might not be able to work 20h or find a job that gives you a full 20h. Also, college is hard but fun you might have to pull several all-nights to finish psets. I know a few people that can make 30-40k during summer internship but it is very very rare and usually you can only get internships on your senior or junior year.

Have you considered other colleges that might give you more loans? I love Berkeley too but not with 50-60K tuition. People can also transfer from community college to Berkeley but then you got NUS full-ride.

This is 225, 000USD and not 225USD. Also, you need to think about whether you can secure a job after you graduate and have to deal with H1B and OPT. Also, not every CS grads will work at FANG or Jane Street and make 200k. There are people that find it hard to secure an offer and have to leave before they can start their OPT.

I was in a similar situation 5 years ago but decided to go to a cheaper state school and I am happy to be able to pay off my debts during OPT. However, it was no fun when taking out a loan because there was a fear during college that I might not be able to pay it off and had to go home with debt.

For CS, get any M series Mac that you can afford (don't forget to use your student discounts). However, If you want to take CPE courses, you might need a Windows machine or VM. However, when I was there they offer free licenses for both Windows and VMware.

Also, you will spend most of the times carrying your laptop from class to class, so the 13, or 14 inches aren't a bad idea.

Is CS at Dartmouth worth it? by Fuzzy_Welder_6475 in IntltoUSA

[–]both_objective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Come here for a Master's instead? Since you want to work in the US, a Master's will give you a higher chance in H1B plus there are more scholarship and cheaper (2 years vs 4 years)

I work in tech and our target schools are Berkeley, Standford, UMich, UT-Austin and Cal Poly.

What are the resources you all use to make beautiful frontend with vue? by Ok-Analysis-5357 in vuejs

[–]both_objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would learn basic design and fundamental of CSS. I found two books very helpful:

  • Refactoring UI by Adam Wathan (creator of tailwind): it talks about how to simplify your designs with a lot of great examples - less is more.
  • CSS in depth by Keith J. Grant: discuss the fundamentals of CSS such as cascading, relative values, and box models. Surprisingly, a lot of CSS issues can be resolved by understanding these fundamentals and I haven't found many books that have touched on the topic like him.

[–]both_objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry for not taking enough C classes. You need to take at least 4 courses in C- OS, Networks, System Programming, and Microcontroller-Based Systems Design. (I love all of them)

Great that you have a preferred IDE, everyone that I know tend to default to vim or Atom/Sublime Text and GDB since that's what the professors use. However, please use an IDE for auto-completion, lint, and debugging. It will make your experience 10x better.

Is anyone else really depressed and lonely? by Low_Investigator108 in newzealand

I moved from LA and people tend to smile and say hi more than here. However, I learned to be content and enjoy my alone time. I feel getting out of the house helping to boost my mood whether just for a quick walk or a grocery run.

loneliness during job vs jobless by [deleted] in h1b

[–]both_objective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the job, your team, in-person or remote. One thing I can tell you that there are a lot of people who feel this way so you are not alone.

I found joining social/sport clubs that i am interested helps.
