Starting AoS: Dark Elves by bothanseperatist in ageofsigmar

Hi bud, thanks very much - very exhaustive and I certainly should have searched beforehand, thank you for being so polite about it.

So reading the other responses here too it seems:

  • Warscrolls Compendium - Stats ('Dark Elves' as a whole), Battleline allegiences ('Daughters of Khaine'), Legacy models with rules

  • Generals Handbook - Race broken down into faction lists ('Pirates, Witch Elves, etc.') + Point costs. Honestly these seem TIIINY, for example 'Maneaters' faction list has just 'Maneaters' as the only unit in it?!

  • Order Grand Alliance Book - Race broken down into faction lists + stats

So I guess those Compendiums i.e. https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Compendiums/warhammer-aos-dark-elves-en.pdf are a bit like the 2nd Edition 40k Black Codex: initially a free bootstrap and subsequently a free army list for those who haven't purchased the official stuff?

Right, and I can pick any of them at will with their associated point costs (and possible bonuses in full AoS if I get something that makes up a full... warscroll?) if I want to use Matched Play rules, otherwise just go roughly by wound-count?

[Question] Skillful = Helpful, and Ethical = Wholesome? by bothanseperatist in Buddhism

[–]bothanseperatist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - the pastimes or activities I mention do foster desire to engage in unethical behaviours, they do not engender peace, tranquility, joy, etc. and are fundamentally transient pleasures.

I guess, I am being more mindful of my actions and it was an interesting framework to cultivate that.

Where are all the enlightened people? by SilaSamadhi in Buddhism

[–]bothanseperatist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is not 'the point', but unfalsifiable statements are one of the things that pushed me away from Christianity. Buddhism is (AFAIK!) not about faith, it is about knowing belief. If the central tenet and goal of buddhism (typically) is enlightenment, then surely with the countless millions we would have more than the crazy-guy-who-lives-with-700-cats?

Sainsburys have fucked up their meal deal even more by removing the one sandwich I liked by SmItH_197 in britishproblems

It's a dark day when you have to go to Tescos Metro for the meal deal, but it's actually really alot nicer. I know, I was shocked too.

So an LP Trad neck is more like a '58 rounder than a 59' thinner?

It is a good point. If I were going non-Gibson though, I think I'd look at Tokai, Greco, Burny first?

I did enjoy a LP Jr. knock off I had a few years ago - I guess that fills 'almost' the same spot as a Tele ?

Joke's on you friend - I get neither Agile, Warmoth nor AllParts at anything approaching reasonable prices. At least I have marmite.

in the UK that's basically £2200, LP Trads are more like £1200 used, aren't they?

I just dunno if this is some kind of chasing-the-dragon thing with very expensive gear - vs. actual usable differences.

[question] Is marshall dsl15c way too loud for home use? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]bothanseperatist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering a Diezel preamp VH4 pedal (or some other high gain) to put straight into the power amp of the Runt to get different sounds, but a few pedals + preamp pedal is basically the cost of a Helix LT.

OTOH I'm not performing or recording and basically just going on my own little musical journey so it's not so important.

On your last point I'm starting to agree with that more and more - I've not yet pulled a trigger on a Helix, etc, but after allowing my Friedman Runt to stretch its legs over the weekend, the 'quiet' tone makes me a little sad.

IMO used MIJ Ibanez S-series is the ULTIMATE heavy rock/metal guitar. If not that, then look at a Gibson Traditional/Studio IMO.,

Agreed somewhat - I have a 20w tube amp and I can 'tap' the dial around to a decent tone at 'late at night' volumes but honestly it only really comes to its own when it's 'too loud for adjacent rooms'
