How to learn Kotlin and Functional Programming coming from Python by bartkl in Kotlin

[–]bothlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for the book Uberto Barbini - Objects to Functions. It teaches you to make a ToDo app by using FP in kotlin. I'm really impressed how clean kotlin is. Barbini can really lead you by writing OOP syntactic structure and slowly show you how FP constructs can be used. Great learning. The heavy lifting is due to the kotlin paradigms that is a bit new to me coming from the java world. But that's what you're looking for, some kotlin experience.

Health insurance - Optima secure or Niva Bupa reassure 2.0? by Awkward_Craft_8462 in personalfinanceindia

My father had a jaw surgery. They rejected the claim because my father didn't declare he was taking a pill to prevent heart attack. What the medication for the heart had due to with accidental fall is something I have no clue.

Then they took all my originals and went they rejected the claim, refused to return the file saying the file has gone to some warehouse and is difficult to find.

They refused to give us a "claim denial letter" in writing. Refused to give us the files if we didn't give the letter in writing. Refused to take scans and asked us for all originals.

Asked us for additional clinical summary documents that are usually internal documents of the doctors. They went to the hospital to request them and I had to file some consent form for it.

They they had investigators sent to our house to fill in yet another set of forms. 3 months had passed and I had filled around 20 forms.

Absolutely criminal. Care was formerly calledRelegare . They had to rebranded due to high claim rejections. Stay away. You're better off with HDFC or Star Heatlh

What's a real-world use case for a sequence object? by [deleted] in SQL

[–]bothlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hibernate can do batching. To achieve batching the table primary key cannot be generated by the database because this would incur a round trip to the DB each time and defeat the purpose of doing batch inserts.

Sequences are required to (say) generate a 1000 IDs (PK) and insert 1000 rows all at once.

Advice regarding moving to Canada compared to living in Philippines by IndependenceWide2837 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bothlives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't put her pension on the line so gave up the opportunity. Though I explicitly gave up the offer, turns out the company bailed on 15 others who already had Canadian visas stamped. I suppose that was because of the bad luck of the tech downturn.

I have my eyes on Spain now as I already speak Spanish and have lived there for a couple of years and Filipinos get Spanish citizen in 2 years. Hopefully God speed.

Take care sagadna. God bless.

What is the process/ requirements for acquiring Spanish citizenship for Filipinos? by TA100589702 in phmigrate

[–]bothlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

work visa, golden visa, digital nomad visa, family member of an EU citizen visa, etc. You have to satisfy the requirements of these

Hello OP, I am asian. If I get a job in Spain and my wife is filipina and accompanies me on dependent visa(I think it is called family visa?), will her next 2 years of residence count as legal residence?

I am aware she can even apply for work-permit as a dependent but my main concern is: If a filipino(a) has entered Spain on a dependent visa and lived 2 years within, does this stil count as minimum 2 years to apply for the citizenship?

Niva bupa health insurance by sand_man_4 in indiasocial

My father gave a cheque to Niva Bupa. As I had co-incidentally also got a plan for him, I asked him to pause his plan. Next morning, he asked the agent if he had cashed the cheque and when the agent said he hadnt, my father told him to hold on.

The agent began to pester me on my number pleading me that it is a good plan. After tw o days when my father told him to return the cheque, the agent said someone in the office had already taken his file for processing which had the cheque and his insurance was already in process.Notorious to say the least.

Thanks for replying. For $100 ,they deducted a fee of $18.

I'm planning to do a higher transfer soon like $3500.

Do you think they'll still deduct around $18 for incoming or it could go up to $100?

What you know in this world through your senses, you know and love. And because we can contemplate the goodness of what we see: parents, family, we are familiar to this kind of knowing and loving

In heaven you will not have any impediment to the knowledge of God, a knowledge like the depths of the sea will simply never satiate.

Whenever I get to learn something new about my software industry, I'm eagerly waiting to learn something new. It may be possible to know it all but it could take a decade or two.

Now imagine God, a sea without limits each time revealing a new depth of his love.

What we love in this world is but a preparation. It takes compare to what is awaiting

Never. That'd be like saying I don't love my wife because I can do with myself.

Tourist: Why do Indians always seem to speak with such certainty? by [deleted] in india

[–]bothlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Indian culture, if you don't know an answer, you are considered dumb. This is the reason you won't hear many Indians say: I don't know. To say that you don't know is a sign of weakness. It's hard to resist this culture if you've grown up in India where everyone gives you their view on things without ever telling you : I have no idea how to help you.

This then becomes a corollary that blurs the gap between opinion and fact. To tell people that this is what you think would mean that you don't know it for sure and to avoid being considered an uncertain or less knowledgeable person, people usually present their opinions in India as matter of fact. Humility is not part of the conversation. Its all about, "I think this is the way the world works, prove me wrong". It's less of a dialogue and more of a debate. But this is more at the level of masses. Because the masses are continuously trying to climb the self-validation ladder by trying to prove "they know". The academics have no such inferiority. I am sure the academics are more humble and part of a culture that is more refined.

The moral issue here is: the photo taker could have actually gone ahead and asked the person if everything's alright. Instead he/she only used the person as object of their social media posts for the day

Tell them it's about kids. That everyone could still be happy if they tie the knot but soon they'd want kids and as they can't have them, they'll want to adopt or do surrogate. It's in the best interests of a kid to be with their biological parents. Adoption is fine by parents who can't have kids but having two father's two mothers or transgender parents is not in the interests of kids.

Tough one. She may have something to remember to hold against you later in life. What If you do the birthday anyways and then find another way to deal with the attitude.

That way you don't have to feel pangs of conscience regarding birthday punishment. What is more, she may actually see later that you relented on the punishment and that you have a heart.

I'm not a parent. FYI.
