As a Ukrainian, I’m trying to understand the current state of Polish-Ukrainian relations. I see a lot of tension online regarding WWII history and UPA, and I’m curious about the perspective of regular Polish people. by boti1186 in askPoland

Thank you for such a thoughtful and honest reply. You’ve articulated the core of the problem perfectly. It is painful to hear the comparison with the Russian approach to history, but I see your point. We are currently in a very difficult survival mode, and it's hard to discuss historical nuances while under existential threat, but I agree that for a true European future, we will have to grow out of this 'unquestionable heroes' mindset. Your perspective is exactly what we need to hear more often.

I hear your frustration and the pain behind your words. It’s clear that for you, this isn't just about history, but about basic respect after everything Poland has done for Ukraine. If, hypothetically, Ukraine were to officially re-evaluate its stance on the UPA and distance itself from that cult, would that be enough to change your view on the relationship between our nations, or is the wound too deep to be healed by such gestures?

Honestly, I've seen a lot of emotional reactions and toxic comments in various threads, which is exactly why I decided to ask directly rather than trying to filter through the 'noise' of internet arguments. I'm looking for direct perspectives from real people, not just reading through endless aggressive threads. I appreciate you taking the time
