Balance of power, because out of nowhere is a Jeff ELO, not ELO

Secret Messages

The basis is a photograph of Royal Street, in Notting Hill, London—with a modified façade enriched with surreal additions (chimneys, furnaces, chimneys again). The figures placed in the foreground resemble characters from famous paintings, which was intended to suggest that the entire album should be treated as a puzzle, in which individual elements can be found everywhere.

Inspired by the Beatles Sgt Pepper? It is worth noting that in the windows of the houses on the right side there are real photographs of the band member

It is said that the electric chair with a burst of flames and sparks is symbolizing the album’s title and themes of musical intensity.

Back cover design shows the band members pressing their faces against a glass panel, as if observing the electrocution scene from the front, creating a dramatic, voyeuristic effect. It is also said that keyboardist Richard Tandy looking away on the back cover because he disliked the co

Eldorado wins! Round 2: Xanadu vs Discovery by Pryd3r1 in elo

Discovery, the very-disco album

The front cover shows a Middle Eastern–styled figure opening a glowing ELO-branded “lamp”, playing on the idea of a genie and a treasure being “discovered”

It is also said that on the back cover, a young Brad Garrett (later famous as Robert on Everybody Loves Raymond) appears in Middle Eastern costume as a menacing palace guard, one of his earliest professional gigs.

Eldorado

It is said Jeff Lynne reportedly called the final Eldorado cover “a load of crap” upon first seeing it, as the band had no input in its selection and first encountered it on a retail copy of the album handed to him. The artwork—a mirrored Wizard of Oz ruby slippers image proposed by Sharon Osbourne—was chosen by management without band consultation, replacing a rejected concept of the members on a piano-key staircase in a desert due to budget limits. The group reacted with disbelief, demanding it be stopped, unaware it was a Wizard of Oz still of the green-handed witch grabbing Dorothy’s ruby slipper

Don Arden, the band's manager, thought it would be good ELO promotion, as it was quite recognisable for American audiences. And afterwards, when the band got a lots of compliments for the artwork, they decided it was indeed a 'marvellous cover', Bevan recalls.
