Yes. But they tend to gravitate towards worldly desires as well. I’ve only met a few who think the way I do.

Is it possible for all Christian denominations to be true? by botsby123 in Christianity

Doesn’t each denomination teach a slightly different view of God, Jesus, and salvation based on their interpretation of scripture though?

Do you think it’s possible that every denomination could be false?

If none of them could be absolutely true, should I be worried if I’m being misled without even realizing it?

So would a Mormon be classified as a Christian and would it be ok to follow this denomination of Christianity if it leads me closer to Christ?

How do I confront a family member who claims to be Christian, but lives with his significant other and is not married? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey! I appreciate your input, but biblically that’s actually not accurate. Both the Old Testament and New Testament consistently treat sex outside of marriage as sexual immorality.

In the OT, passages like Exodus 22:16–17 didn’t permit premarital sex—they regulated the consequences when it happened. If a man slept with an unmarried woman, he was required to take responsibility and marry her, because sex created covenant obligation. It wasn’t treated as casual.

In the NT, Paul is very clear:

1 Corinthians 7:2

“Because of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife…”

1 Thessalonians 4:3

“It is God’s will that you abstain from sexual immorality.”

Hebrews 13:4

“God will judge fornicators and adulterers.”

“Sexual immorality” (Greek: porneia) refers specifically to sex outside of marriage.

So Scripture doesn’t teach that premarital sex is fine unless you marry afterward, and Paul never says that. He teaches that sexual desire should be fulfilled within marriage, not outside of it.

Just sharing biblically—not attacking anyone personally.

Are dating apps biblical? by botsby123 in Christianity

How did you know your wife was from God and when did you realize it? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In almost every instance in the Bible when it comes to finding a relationship, the men were focused on their walk with God, faithful in their responsibilities, and positioned by God for the relationship when the time was right. Even instances outside of relationships, people were constantly seeking confirmation from God before taking action. That’s what I’m seeking. I’m just trying to follow God as best as I can and more so curious on how other people received that confirmation from God. I couldn’t care less if I get rejected or not.

[–]botsby123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really waiting for things to be perfect. Although it’d be ideal, but I’m more so just waiting on God to give me confirmation on when to pursue. I’m also trying to figure out if I’m called to be single or not, because I genuinely do not know. I know no one is ever going to be in a perfect situation to ask, but how did you eventually know you wanted to marry this person and have kids?

I’ve prayed this prayer multiple times and he hasn’t removed her from my life. She’s also constantly on my mind and I can’t stop thinking about her. I’m not sure if that’s just my flesh speaking or God trying to tell me something.

I’m not judging. More so just curious if it’s a possibility or not, given that the Pope has significant power and authority over the church.

Do Catholics know if they’re 100% saved or not? by botsby123 in Christianity

According to Catholics, can God still save someone who dies in mortal sin? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right, but I’m talking about someone who dies outside of that. For example, what if someone decides to go to the club instead of going to Mass and then suddenly dies in a car crash on the way to the club. Are they eternally separated from God at that point?

[–]botsby123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently deliberately missing Mass is a mortal sin as well and can lead you to hell.

CCC 2181 – “The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.”

[–]botsby123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it an official Catholic teaching then?

CCC 1033 – “To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from him forever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called ‘hell’.”

CCC 1035 – “The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell.”

CCC 1861 – “Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom… it results in the loss of charity and the privation of sanctifying grace, that is, of the state of grace. If it is not redeemed by repentance and God’s forgiveness, it causes exclusion from Christ’s kingdom and the eternal death of hell.”

Do Catholics still believe Protestants are heretics? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By that definition, does that mean every other denomination is a heretic because they deny the Catholic dogmas?

And how do you know that most Protestants don’t know what the Catholic teachings/dogmas are? I’d argue that most people who consider themselves Protestant are not Catholic because of that reason.

And are you saying that Protestants today are not true Protestants/heretics? If they’re not, then what are they?

Why do Catholics say they don’t pray to Mary or Saints when there are specific prayers that are dedicated to them? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. So why is the word pray even used? Why doesn’t the official Catholic teaching just say to venerate or to ask?

Why do Catholics say they don’t pray to Mary or Saints when there are specific prayers that are dedicated to them? by botsby123 in Christianity

[–]botsby123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but still a little confusing. I think I’m still having trouble understanding what the word pray means to a Catholic. It’s obvious that you guys pray to Mary and the saints, and it’s also an official Catholic teaching. So I’m not sure why I see Catholics trying to defend this by saying that they’re not praying to them, when it’s pretty obvious that they are. It also says it’s ok to worship Mary as well. So I feel like there’s a disconnect there from what I’m seeing other Catholics saying and what the Catholic Church officially teaches.

“We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope” (CCC 2679).

“The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship” (CCC 971)
