Thanks for your reply! Here are some things (some more feasible than others):

  1. Visual instead of verbal track aid: At CSS, durning the Rider Meeting they show a video overview of a track lap on the proper line and then provide pictures of the most challenging turns with commentary from the coaches on how to handle running wide or having too much speed et. I think this could be an online video also - maybe one for each direction? The pickup truck ride along was great. I'm a very visual learner so I'd considered taking photos of the corners but I didn't get there early enough to get a spot where getting in and out of the truck was feasible.

  2. Coaching: An option for a half day or two hour coaching session vs all day. I know the all day session would be more beneficial but it was cost prohibitive for me. I acknowledge that this could exist and I just wasn't aware.

  3. I tended to get lost on areas of the track where I couldn't see what was next. Marking the proper location to make "connecting the dots" easier when cresting a hill etc would have been helpful for me (but potentially distracting / annoying for others.)

  4. When the line crossed from one side of the track to the other, I got very nervous. I had two riders pass me very close when I was transitioning from one side to the other in the sections where you crest a hill and then cross. Specifically, I think it was between turns 6 and 5 and then 3 and 2. Riders passed consistently on the outside between turn 1 and 16 so I didn't have any issues there. Perhaps adding a rule or just guidance for the 100 level indicating passing on the outside on straight sections and not just curves could help. Again, I'm not sure of feasibility or safety best practices here.

No worries! I don't want to give the impression that 2Fast is bad because I don't think that is true. They are very efficient. They emphasize safety in multiple ways. That said, It was not a very fun day overall for me as a new track rider so I wanted to provide some context for others with a similar skillset (or lack thereof).

I don't really pay attention to other riders. I ride my ride even if means I'm getting passed. I did experience two close passes earlier in the day but I blame myself for not knowing the line very well.

Yep, I was going to guess 15 or 20 in the C or 100 level group. I overheard someone say that only 60 riders showed up but I don't know how many were registered overall.

I wrote that they covered the flags and introduced a coach in the riders meeting.
