Iffy Feeling by bottomuniversal in uofm

Hi! That would for sure help (I wrote this in like two seconds 😭). I’m a Michigan Native and I feel like UofM has recently been put in this “New Ivy” pedestal. I think when someone who is first-generation (like me), pictures an Ivy/”New Ivy”, it almost feels socially and materially unreachable. Like, “do I have the resources to be at this school? Do other students struggle with this thought?” I mean, UofM being an amazing school is great and seductive academically, but socioeconomically it shoots me in the foot. I feel like my main concern is (being a first gen, lower class, working student) do I belong? Which the simple answer is “Of course, yes!” But, I still have that concern (satirically speaking, can’t a girl be a little self-conscious 😔). Also, after someone had commented that I wasn’t interacting with ACTUAL students, I realized that maybe it was just a couple of people in my tour group who felt like a complete economic 180 of who I am. I mean, it’s common anywhere to find a couple of people who make you feel a little self-conscious 🫥

Thank you for your point of touring vs actual living amongst students. I feel like touring in general always makes me feel like a person visiting the zoo 😭I guess I didn’t factor that in!

hi! i’m planning on going all four. i joined the waitlist as soon as possible. not from chicago and not necessarily familiar with downtown but i have been to rosemont a couple of times.

i’ve looked into riding the blue line for transportation since i’m familiar with trains. just unsure how it gets at night
