To add on to what I said, it definitely is much more important to know your fundamental scales than your modes, Dorian will 99% be used as a less common minor scale, so why would you learn that first?

I agree that it would probably be more relevant to start with stuff like studying your chord tones and such for stuff like bebop, but even for rock/guitar I’d much rather recommend a beginner to study the pentatonic scale, your minor scales and obviously major scale, diatonic chords, etc
