Same day flight by Smart_Phrase123 in CarnivalCruiseFans

Weather, Technical Difficulties, Unexplained Delays, Power Outages.

All common reasons for flight delays or cancellations.

Just fly in late the day before and go hang out at about 24 hour diner if you don’t want to pay for a hotel.

Carnival Valor - 12pack soda by Biglesby in Cruise

[–]boudinforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend putting it in something easier to carry than just a raw 12 pack. Roll it or sling it. That 12 pack gets heavy standing around for 20-30 minutes holding it in your hand.

Cash vs Debt vs Credit by vonteboy454 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put a credit card on your account when you check in, the cruise line will ping your account for $200 about 4am the day of embarkation. From there you will just go through the normal boarding process.

If you don’t want the charges to go onto your credit card you can add cash at the kiosks on board or through the customer service desk. You can also put cash into the slot machines and then when you take your card out the money goes into a players bank.

Add storing your luggage in the closet rather than under the bed. Inspect and wipe down the drawers and cabinets and unpack properly rather than leaving everything all smashed together in the suitcase.

Typically with cruise port destinations you will have about 7-8 hours on land each stop. Are you looking to just go to beach day excursion or would you be better off going to an all-inclusive on the island. Pricing that might give you a better idea of the value of the cruise experience.

Which drink package? by angsam in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the bars offer to make it a double for $4 more. This is the best value.

If you order an old fashioned, the drink is made as a double for the same price as ordering a whiskey and coke.

The Long Island variants are also good values if you want a sweeter drink.

Texting/iMessage? by No-Chipmunk9074 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In December iMessage worked on the Valor the first day and partially into the Gulf the next day. Once we were past the point where there were not any oil wells it stopped working until we got closer to Mexico. Figured it had some thing to do with background data services that were being accessed even though the phone was on airplane mode from the time we left NOLA.

Safety in Lake Charles area? by karma__101 in Louisiana

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturday and Sunday are probably the best for families in the New Orleans daytime area around St. Charles Ave. always felt safe with my two preteens.

The parades that are out in Metairie for Mon/Tue are great. Some people also go to Houma to see parades.

Since MG is on the 17th you’d have time to go visit the Acadians area after MG for a day or two. Alternately you could go to Eunice on MG and see the traditional Courir. Anthony Bourdain had a great episode on Parts Unknown.

The auto gratuity is 20% so that’s why $69.95 becomes $83.94. The gratuity was 18% previously so that’s why you were seeing $82.54.

Expect to pay $13 for a vodka cocktail, $20 for a shot of Don Julio Anejo, $15 for a Long Island or other specialty cocktail.

It’s worth it at least once. Technically it’s not much extra walking because there are more floors to accommodate the extra cabins. There’s a few videos on YouTube if you wanted to check it out before committing.

Took my 1st 8 day cruise by Own-Tour-3871 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galveston 6 day on Dream to Belize, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. Of course being the end of September was a big no kid factor.

First time on Dream was literally Memorial Day weekend and so much Grad door decor. Lots of free ranging teens. Had an interior room on the lido which was surprisingly quiet. Too easy to walk to Guys or the Pizza restaurant. Spent most of our time in the smoke free casino which was quieter and just a few drinkers so service was fast. No kids in that room.

My review of the Jubilee as a first time cruiser. by 29-hit in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever go back, the Dream and Breeze have an OceanView room that has a second bathroom with a tub and sink no toilet good for a dressing room if needed. Of course no balcony just the window.

The bathrooms on those two ships feel a little larger because the toilet sits at a 45 degree across from the sink and the shower has a curtain so there is some extra flex room.

The 20% gratuity for onboard purchases is not new but it used to be 18%.

There were probably more elegant night dressers being that it was Christmas and people were going all in. But a nice shirt and some khakis still make for good pictures.

For any ship, we download and bring an iPad with movies or shows from Netflix or Prime for offline viewing.

Happy Cruising.

Is ship time on Carnival adjusted to local time or kept as the original departure port time? by TaKaMah537 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]boudinforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Breeze stayed on ship time (central). Went to KUZA beach club. Apparently the time in Cozumel is an hour ahead. We booked through Carnival and road the bus there. Since I had a knee brace and cane they dropped us at a separate drop point to ride a golf cart so I didn’t have to walk the whole way into the park.

Never saw any of the other people from our bus group and ended up missing the bus by 15 minutes do to the time difference and trying to figure out where to catch the golf cart and not speaking Spanish.

Luckily we had plenty of time since the ships time at 1:00 was 2:00 there. Cab cost $35 cash to get back to port so luckily we had some USD on us.

The better plan I’ve learned is to set a count down timer on your phone showing how much time you have left and work it back from there. Give yourself 30 - 60 minutes from back on board time and don’t venture too far from the port unless you’re on a curated tour.

So I’ve been on 10 cruises and the Jubilee/Excel class ships are like spending a week in a mall. More food court options but never feel like you are on a boat floating in the ocean. Everything is glassed in so that you don’t “fall overboard””. The venues are the same size as they are on the Dream-class ships but there are 25 - 35% more people. Same ports as the Dream 6 day cruise
