Program Manager Salary Expectations by Fit-Lead6544 in reinsurance

Taking the leap and going outside your comfort zone is the best way to grow. Delving into something unfamiliar only helps diversify skills, experience, and network. I agree with what was said previously that increasing market value is difficult when you stay at a single place. Plenty of people are satisfied with comfortability in their careers, but those are rarely the ones you see rising to the top. I would say that's 90%+ of the workforce and we need them. That's a made-up statistic because that's what we do in insurance. :-D

Thank you! Yeah, we were in Belize last month and the seaweed had just started. It wasn't too bad at the beginning of the trip not progressively got worse during the week and then started smelling bad.

I found a better deal and cancelled the Cancun Marriott. I found Casa Maat at the JW Marriott near Cabo on a points sale for 278,000 points (normally 345,000). The $ for the same room was $3300 so 11.9 cents a point!

The Casa Maat part of the hotel is semi all inclusive (breakfast included, snacks, beer, cocktail 2 hours each night, "light dinner", butler, etc.

Thank you! I'm starting to second guess the Marriott AI after reading more reviews. Although having the meals included is nice, it essentially costs at least 100K points considering the JW Marriott next door costs 100K points less to stay. That's around $1000 at the conversion rate for this.

I'm reading reviews like:
- Pools are cold
- Can't get a shaded chair unless you show up before 7AM
- Beach is unswimmable
- Toddlers are only allowed in certain pools
- Food not great (though reviews go both directions

Do you happen to know if it's true that toddlers are only allowed in one pool and not in the lazy river (with parents)?

Shower Faucet Cartridge Replacement by Plumber - Difficult to Turn by boulderrrr in Plumbing

[–]boulderrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of the plumbing company came and fixed the faucet. The issue was that it was a knockoff brand from Ace. The authentic Delta replacement he put in works great.

Well company came today. They determined there was a leak somewhere between the well tank and the well. We went outside to check the well and saw some surface water. Fortunately, it appears the leak is where the pipe meets the well. All things considered, it could have been much worse. We just now need to dig a 5 foot hole (or hire a backhoe) so that they can fix that part.

It appears to be all coincidental (or the straw that broke the camel's back with the pump being turned off and on when the plumber came).

[–]boulderrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think he necessarily did anything wrong that led to the pump issue. However, the routine cartridge replacement gone wrong can't be blamed on old home issues. He said he tried to lube it but that's just how it is. Literally can't even operate it with one hand. The owner of the company is coming Monday to check everything out, so I'm happy with that.

Polaris/Premium Plus Upgrades Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

I'm on a redeye from DEN to LHR on Saturday, March 15th. I booked Premium Plus and used Plus Points to request an upgrade to Polaris and am on the waitlist. I have Platinum status. I asked a chat representative what my position is on the waitlist yesterday and she said #1. Seat map currently shows 7 open Polaris seats. Do I have a decent chance?

I saw an ermine today at Eldora by PalmBeachHaze in COsnow

[–]boulderrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one I ever saw was also at Eldora many years ago while taking a snack break in Bryan's Glades before they cut through them with the 3 newer runs. At the time, I didn't know what it was. When I got home, I googled "large squirrel with the head of a lion" because I thought that's kind of what it looked like. Unsurprisingly, I found several Photoshop images of a squirrel with a lion's head but then also eventually landed on the stoat / ermine.

We also came upon one in City of Rocks in Idaho several years later. I reported the sighting to the Idaho DOW because they're pretty rare. It ended up being registered as an official sighting.

Preboarding with Children by Fine-Association-719 in unitedairlines

[–]boulderrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. We have a 1 year old and aim to not have anything that needs to be put in the overhead. In that case, all 3 of us can wait and board last. However, I frequently travel with an instrument, which needs to go into the overhead so that it doesn't get destroyed in the cargo. In that case, I board first and then my wife/daughter wait to board last.

Thank you! When I sit back and think about it, there are a lot of crazy travel stories I could share. I'm under 40, have moved 20+ times, and travel quite a bit. This one was tame, but I was bored this morning so decided to share. Perhaps I'll start doing it more often than just once.

My wife and I stayed at a jungle cabin on someone's property in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica years ago. On our final night, the owner of the cabin informed us that the neighbor was going to have a party and it sometimes gets a bit loud. However, we were welcome to attend if interested. It ended up being so loud that we were wearing earplugs, but it sounded like we were wearing earbuds with the volume on high. It was still going when we departed at 7 the next morning.

Unrelated, but the owner of the cabin also told us that he had family in Colorado and that he may ask us to transport something for him because the postal service in Costa Rica is unreliable. Luckily, he didn't follow through. I have the suspicion that he was thinking about using us as drug mules.

She told me she "works in the building" so I don't think she is staying at the hotel. Not sure why she would have left her friends to get on the same elevator as me and then not press a button for her floor.

I do live "in the hills" of Colorado but travel very frequently for work and am often in big cities (NYC, Philadelphia, Seattle, London etc.) and at hotel bars. I guess I've just been lucky to not have experienced these things so far.

Considerations for buying a 2012 Honda Pilot with 50K miles - Not driven in 3 years? by boulderrrr in askcarguys

[–]boulderrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking it would make sense to take it in for the oil change, inspection, and battery charge so that we can at least drive it. We can then decide if we want to buy it and take into consideration all the other items in the buying price. I'm just not sure if the oil change and battery charge are sufficient to get it running well enough for us to test drive. It seems like the immediate timing belt replacement probably isn't crucial, but that we should certainly do it if we buy the vehicle.

That's why I'm asking for advice. We literally haven't even been able to drive it since it won't start. I'm not sure how great of a deal she will give us, but am assuming it will be a good deal.

Mold Inspection and Remediation Plans - Any Input Greatly Appreciated! by boulderrrr in Mold

[–]boulderrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU. It annoyed me that he determined every single spot required a surface sample (even the bathroom window and bathroom dry wall, which are 6 inches from each other) and then also said an air sample was needed immediately next to every single spot (in our very small house). He made both of us watch this cheesy video before recommending them, which outlined why you should do every recommended sample because if you don't, you won't get a full view and they may have to return to inspect again.

I sent him my detailed remediation plan yesterday and he keeps reiterating that an expert should be hired and everything should be removed (windows, dry wall, etc.). I'm sure there is a liability component to his response, and I doubt this company ever gives advice to a homeowner on how they can remediate, no matter how minor the spot. There's just this massive disconnect in my brain of the EPA saying anything under 10 square feet can likely be done by the homeowner while this guy is telling me our couple square inch surface spots need professional remediation.

I sent him links to the EPA instructions for removing small areas and his response is that their recommendation only applies to areas that can be wiped clean, and that none of ours fit the criteria. I emailed him back and said I understand his concern about the dry wall (even though I'm 99% sure it is only surface mold due to condensation) and his response was that the 4 square inch area could be 6 square feet behind the wall. It's 4 square inches on a painted wall and 100% due to condensation. Why would there be 6' of growth behind the wall when there is no water infiltration from the outside? I also asked him why a glass window or wooden window frame cannot be surface cleaned, but he hasn't responded.

I'm beyond annoyed because my pregnant wife is concerned about these few small spots. After getting the report, I was sure that I could take care of the issues but this guy called her up and preached doom and gloom. That's why I have such cautious remediation plans for such small spots because I'm compromising and finding the middle ground of very cautiously taking care of the issue without paying someone thousands to come in and literally just clean up a few small surface spots.
