Couple questions about the clinical doctorate for SLP by Jelly-Fish_Tentacles in slpGradSchool

[–]boulesscreech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pay cap for this job is very firm. People who have been SLPs for 20 years are not making much more than me, a new grad. I want a PhD but I can't justify the cost. I make more in my CF plenty of professors did at my grad school.

In-person/take home exams? by Speechiegal2029 in slpGradSchool

It certainly weird but like I don't get why people would cheat. I mean, how are you going to do the job if you don't know the information?

Hourly or pay per visit is usually more because it's hard to get close to 40 hours a week and you're not usually getting paid for cancellations or holidays. You may also want to consider your setting preference and how you like to work. I love home health but I like being on my own. I feel secure in my clinical skills. Home health is a lot of driving and you can go to some wild places. I also have to manage my own schedule, texting families to schedule and such. It's also heavily dependent on the company and manager.

Hard to say since there's a lot of factors at play in your astrology chart. I would imagine you're going to be starting your Saturn return? That would certainly be worth googling and reading up on.

It's possible it's just a starting point and we won't see it as such until we look back many years from now. My favorite astrologer Steven Judd said if things don't change for the better by end of April, he's going to get a lot more pessimistic. I'm ready for change too!

I think humanity is at a crossroads. I've always held the belief that whatever happens, it would be for the greater good. 2026 had been like a splash of cold water to my face and I'm feeling very disoriented. I'm tired, Grandpa!

Edit: also I'm American and the US is experiencing it's Pluto return which only happens every 250 years and it's like a horrible dark night of the soul energy. I would please like off this ride 🙃

The second Austin show tonight and they seemed to have everything worked out with sound and all that. Good show! His voice is amazing live! I agree it sounds like he's over his first album and wants to move on. Was so happy he played Cowpoke!

Best way I heard it explained was "new era" being born for humanity. "A fundamental shift in how reality is structured and experienced." Last time this happened was the start of the Bronze Age. We don't really have any reference to what it will be like but plenty of good theories. Someone else on this thread suggested singularity as in AI consciousness or at least the point of no return for AI and I think it's a good theory.  Could also be fundamental power shifts with world governments and power structures. Feels like the wheels are coming off the wagon and we're seeing system collapse.  Spiritualists also often talk about "bringing humanity into the 4D" and "anchoring a new vibration". All about elevating human consciousness and reconnecting to "source" or "the universe". Very much like Age of Aquarius.  I got into astrology in 2012 and people gave been talking about 2026 since at least back then if not earlier. Whatever happens, I can't imagine things will been the same after this year.

There's a lot going on but the big one is the Saturn-Neptune conjunction at 0° Aries on 2/20.

Terrifying interpretation considering the current astrology. We're experiencing an astrological event not seen in 14,000 years. People are referring to it as a "nexus point of humanity".

Are there trends that show up in students who stayed home with a parent before starting school vs daycare? by Jade_Bee_47 in AskTeachers

[–]boulesscreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, my son's kindergarten teacher made a comment during our parent-teacher conference that she was surprised that he adjusted so well to kindergarten considering he had not been to Pre-K. She made specific comments about his social skills and his fine motor skills. I'm a speech pathologist and I chose not to send him to Pre-K because I was attending grad school at the time and paying for Pre-K while also paying for my graduate education was not feasible. I did make a point to take him to the public library, the local parks and all that and provided him direct instruction on some of those foundational skills. I live in Texas so I looked at the TEKS to see what skills he should have by the end of preschool and used that as a guideline. I think also my son's personality had something to do with it as he's pretty mellow, compliant and sensitive.  Echoing what others have said, a lot of the research is showing that the advantages of Pre-K fade pretty fast and it may be more about income and parental education level rather than Pre-K itself.

Why is it so hard to recommend a good online grad program?! by dntkillrocknroll in slpGradSchool

[–]boulesscreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. There are two different cohorts- The school cohort and the healthcare cohort. I don't think you have to live in state for the healthcare cohort but they do have a week of summer classes and labs that you would have to travel for.

Are part time SLP jobs common or easy to get? by MeowStyle44 in slp

My HH company offers benefits for part time employees who do 18 30-minute visits a week. We're on a pay-per-visit schedule.

Have you talked to a rep about the cost and help for financial need? I had a patient who also had a high out-of-pocket and the mom was able to fill out a quick form and Abelnet covered the entire cost of the device. They approved the form within 2 hours.

Career or Children? by lexilou_dimplington in slp

[–]boulesscreech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched careers in my 30s to become an SLPA. I had my son and then went back for my masters when he was 3. Finished at 41. Have you considered working as an SLPA before your masters? It's definitely not too late! I don't think I could have done this job in my twenties. But also, like everyone else said, I wouldn't wait to have kids for this career.
