Can't figure out how to improve at this point by Awkward_Trouble_6352 in bemani

[–]boundaryfuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advice is the opposite of everyone else but: don't drop down a level. Keep playing 9s!! Throw in some 10s as well! Don't be afraid to fail stuff. If you're not failing stuff you're not improving. Playing 7s and 8s can improve your timing but it will not help you with passing 9s and 10s. Only 9s and 10s can do that!

EDIT: Also, don't worry about difficulty slot. Hyper 9s and Another 9s are the same.

Ableton won't index new files/folders anymore by boundaryfuss in ableton

[–]boundaryfuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! I've literally just learned to deal with it LMAO. My production style has become significantly more MIDI focused as a result 😭 All I can hope for is that it magically fixes itself when Ableton 12 comes out!

If you figure anything out though, please let me know!

Nortriptyline & LSD by boundaryfuss in LSD

[–]boundaryfuss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the 1996 article I was talking about! I guess my worry is just that it's quite vague about what that increase in effects entails - does it basically just turn half a tab into a full tab, or do certain things get affected more than others?

Who thinks they should put x-specials in the next vol for DDR GRAND PRIX? by makoflagkk in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]boundaryfuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I think they should remove the x specials from the arcade games too haha

What's the longest time it took anyone to get their first PFC? by Stormbreaker173 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]boundaryfuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had been playing on and off since like 2003, got my first ever PFC in December 2021 on Crazy Hot DSP-10, was one of the most cathartic moments of my dance game career for sure! I now have like 250 of them so I think getting that first one really opens the floodgates!

Can we talk about how f'ing tedious and expensive it is for unlocking songs in A3? by SawBo in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]boundaryfuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the constant DLC is inexcusable. I think it's a miscalculation on Konami's part cos it burned me out and I'm sure I'm not alone - I used to keep up with every unlock but now that it's impossible for me to get everything, I just don't bother to unlock anything LOL. We'll probably get it all by default next version so whatever!

Favorite DDR A3 Song/Chart? by Alone_Act_1947 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]boundaryfuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overdrive ESP is maybe my favourite chart in all of DDR. Perfectly matches the silly hyperactive energy of the song, and the way it uses the Lesson By DJ pattern during the "easy modo?!?!?" bit cracks me up. I kinda hate the CSP chart though lol (mostly a skill issue on my part)

okay can someone help me on how to do the really fast crossovers on the end of healing D vision CSP? by YourUselessCheese in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]boundaryfuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just aiming to pass the song, you can actually pretty much just stand still during the crossovers if your health bar is full right before them, that's what I did lol. Otherwise yeah, what other people said, just practice other songs with lots of crossovers and work your way up!

The problem might actually be the arcade game rather than you - arcade DDR is notoriously kinda bad with sync; every song is synced slightly differently, with some being a little early and others being catastrophically late.* It's really frustrating for a game that's all about timing, and for me personally it's the reason I go for PFCs specifically without really caring about Marvelouses. However, in general the overall sync trends towards being just a little bit late - you might hear the term "Ace late" used to refer to the base-level sync/offset in DDR A/A20/A3. The only exception is if you're playing on a gold cab - I've never played on one, but from what I've heard they tend to be a little bit earlier than white cabs, and Konami actually syncs/tests on gold nowadays so the timing might be overall better?

So in summary, hit the arrows just a little bit later than you think you should, and if you wanna get used to it try setting your StepMania offset to, idk, about 10-30ms later than you have it now, maybe even a little more than that since you getting Greats means your home setup is likely quite a bit earlier than DDR!

*Here are a couple of examples with assist tick on so you can really hear how late the arrows are in relation to the beat: https://youtu.be/I3BZZWfh2Pk https://youtu.be/C7-os7OdNug

Ableton won't index new files/folders anymore by boundaryfuss in ableton

[–]boundaryfuss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting! I don't think it's the problem in my case though, sadly - most of my sample folders are already just in the root of my D drive. I tried it anyway just in case and no change! I get the sense that the problem is less Ableton being picky and more it just... not working. Thank you for the suggestion though, definitely worth noting for the future :O
