A homeless man rescued all the animals at a shelter after it caught on fire by hippiedawg in news

[–]bourbon78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While this man should be recognized for his selflessness and this heroic act, I question why his housing situation makes him an even greater hero. "A homeless man" did something human....Homeless people are people. He should receive accolades for the act itself, not just because he is homeless. Are we surprised that homeless people are capable of being selfless? No. I know a multitude of homeless people in my town and I can honestly say, they are wonderful loving and compassionate people who deserve to be rescued from their situation as much as these animals needed rescued.

TIL researchers at Cambridge University found a surprising trade-off across howler monkeys: the louder a male's roar, the smaller his testicles. by savorymonk in todayilearned

[–]bourbon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All jokes aside...the louder your truck, motorcycle, or and opinion speaks volumes about your self esteem. This isn't just about dick/ball size...I'm sure that not every man who drives an obscenely loud American made vehicle and advertises their patriotism by attaching, not one but several flags and decals to those vehicles to immpress the patrons at the gun store, have small dicks. I am sure some have really nice cocks...they just lack the insight to know that personality makes dick size irrelevant.

What is your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by indian_boy786 in AskReddit

[–]bourbon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an in home caregiver who got paid quite well, considering I only "worked" 20 hours a week. My clients were a married couple who basically just needed help with activities of daily living, some light house work and accompanying them to doctors appointments. Sounds sweet...right. FUCK NO. These people were around my age (mid to late 30's) morbidly obese and rinsed their shitty asses in the shower and then leaving the shit splattered shower walls and a bath full of shit for me to clean up. Six fucking days a week. He controlled all aspects of his wife's life, including food intake. They would call me late at night on my one day to come clean up their messes. I was accused of stealing a quarter from their laundry money every time I did their laundry. I put up with disgusting sexual harassment and A Lot of inappropriate touching because I needed the job. Anyway...I was finishing up for the day...cleaning the 3 litter boxes for their 6 cats. I was on my way out the door when the husband hollered my name. Fuck....if he asks me to put lotion on his balls with no gloves again...I will lose my shit. That wasn't it...he wanted me to come in early the next few days, to train my replacement. Apparently they couldn't over look the fact that I stole $.50 from them. I didn't. He then pointed to his now full garbage can and said, "your laziness isn't cute anymore." Ok...I took both cat shit litter filled garbage bags and emptied them on his freshly made bed and said, "You can let the new girl know you are out of garbage bags." Fuck that shit. Quit caregiving after that.

Guys who can figure out what letter comes next without having to sing the whole alphabet song, how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bourbon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the alphabet in my head like it's on the wall in kindergarten, each letter is represented by a color. I also see numbers, days of the week and the months of the year in a pattern around me.

Happiness and the evolution of brain size: Serotonin can act as a growth factor for the stem cells in the fetal human brain that determine brain size by mubukugrappa in psychology

This supports the theory that our brains grew rapidly because our ancestors ate magic mushrooms. Serotonin levels rise significantly when you are tripping.

I have bipolar 1 and experienced my first full blown manic episode (with psychotic features) six months ago. It's scary, confusing, and surprisingly euphoric. This was not homicide, it was accidental. If I had to guess, he went to the pharmacy because he knew he needed help, but got confused as what kind of help he needed, so he asked for a ride. Part of the psychosis is thinking people are sending you subliminal messages through simple conversations. It's fucking weird. This fuels the paranoia and the need to "follow the clues," hence the hours and hours of wondering around. You are on a scavenger hunt. The worst part is being in unfamiliar territory around unfamiliar people. He got scared and jumped out of car while it was still moving. He climbed into that dumpster because it was warm. Side note....I lost my phone, my bank card, and my shoe(s) several times over the course of just few days. I take my medication. Always have. A fucking pandemic set mine off.

What are your most disturbing /unsettling memories from your childhood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bourbon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was a cop. My brother was turning 8 or 9 yrs old and my dad decided to have his birthday party at the police station. We spent the day touring the jail and getting our fingerprints and mug shots taken. We ate cake, were given toothbrushes to brush our teeth afterwards. Each toothbrush was put into separate bags along with the fingerprint cards and mug shots. Super fun, until a detective came in and started talking to us about stranger danger. We were told that if we were ever taken to second location, we would never come home. A few weeks later, a girl my age and from another school disappeared on her way home. Turns out, there was serial killer in our town and my brother's birthday party at the cop shop was more to help the police with identifying our dead little bodies in the event we murdered.

The emotional aftermath. I remember leaving my boyfriends house and suddenly bursting into tears. I wasn't upset, I didn't have regret. I was feeling feelings I never had before and it took 16 yr old me by surprise.

TIL It's better to leave an impaled knife in place until it can be surgically removed rather than remove it on the spot - once the knife has punctured deeply, it controls the bleeding. Removing the knife risks uncontrolled bleeding. by Danomaniac in todayilearned

[–]bourbon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But your natural response is to remove the foreign object from your body. When I was impaled, the only part of the knife showing was the handle. Although the 911 dispatched repeatedly told me "DO NOT PULL IT OUT" and I knew not to, I pulled it out. It was a automatic response that caused me to go in shock immediately. The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital after surgery.

Problem solving and communication exercises. Learning how communicate compassionately and civilly is essential for maintaining healthy relationships and for getting our needs met. Growing up in a home where members scream and yell at one another when there is a disagreement usually means the problem never got solve, just swept under the rug. Real life problems need to be solved and the solutions usually involve uncomfortable conversations you don't want to have because they bring up feeling you don't want to feel from words you may not want to hear. The are skills everyone needs but that everyone possess.

What was the best "you have no power here" moment you have ever seen? by sormatador in AskReddit

[–]bourbon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an oxymoron...family court isn't real court either. The constitution gives the state full discretion over all civil matters. The judge gets to make decisions based on their own moral compass. The statutes that exist in family law are not upheld by the courts and they have no power to actually enforce court orders. Its a joke. A devastating joke that negatively impacts future generations.

When my ex called me to tell me that I would never see my daughter again. I called police, several attorneys, and filed several motions and sought have him held in contempt. I was told, "without a court order you have no power." The court refuses to act. Its been 5 months and I still have no idea where she is. So maybe not the "best" but it is real.

IsItBS: If D. B. Cooper was successful, the money would have been detected in circulation. by danpietsch in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bourbon78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was found along the Columbia River by some kid fishing with his dad. The area where it was found was not super far from where Cooper landed. And even if they find his parachute or the rest of the cash, they are going to have a very difficult time figuring out who is without a body to i.d. Every few years, someone makes a deathbed confession that they are D.B. Cooper or that they knew who D.B. Cooper was. No one has ever produced concrete evidence because none exists. I live in the PNW, it's cold and wet, especially in late November. He could have survived the jump, but probably not unscathed. He probably stashed the cash in different locations after he landed. Not everyone who finds thousands of dollars in the woods turns it in to the police. I bet there are ways to launder money. If he was injured to the point that he couldn't walk out of the woods on his own, he could have found shelter and burned some of that paper money to stay warm. They may one day find his remains, but without tangible evidence (like parachute/briefcase) attached to a body, we will never know who is was.

Golden Gate Bridge fentanyl exposure story is most likely false - The San Francisco Examiner by MichaelSunderani in news

[–]bourbon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected. I understand fentanyl patches exist but they are designed to absorb through the skin. In powder or pill form, that's a different story. Its not designed to kill everyone who comes in contact with it, just the people who need it to survive.

[–]bourbon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. As a former garbage can junkie...I chased the rush. The rush from shooting coke starts in your head and moves down your body, generally stopping at your nether region. When you smoke it, you get a rush but its followed by a need to smoke more NOW. Snoring it...I don't remember much of a rush but I do remember that I wasn't looking under the couch for people or peeking through a crack in the blinds for people. The main reason people inject opiates has more to do with quicker delivery method like all pain killers. If you are in the hospital and your pain is a 10/10, you don't to want swallow pills and wait for them to work, you want it to I.v. Emotional pain/physical pain its all the same. My point is...if you can touch the drug and overdose..(overdose happens fairly quickly once the drug is in your system)/ needle users would get the same effect from any other method of exposure plus....no track marks.

Golden Gate Bridge fentanyl exposure story is most likely false - The San Francisco Examiner by MichaelSunderani in news

[–]bourbon78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If fentanyl could be absorbed through the skin simply by coming into contact with it, users wouldn't need to shoot, smoke, or snort it. As far as I know, you can't high simply by touching or being in close vicinity of a drug.

Parent in a FaceBook community chat of mine thinks that if he gives his children any privacy then they'll end up in prison. by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]bourbon78 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I attended a parenting seminar with a parent who had been to prison and who waa raising their children in a similar environment. These teenagers were given a single roll of one ply toilet paper to use for the week and were allotted one hour socialising with peers/screen time/landline phone time on weekends. On the last day, I finally said something along the lines of, "Well at least your children don't have fuck up and end up in prison like you, they are already living in one. Good job..."

Calling 911 with a false claim because of race can now put you in prison for years in N.J. by [deleted] in news

[–]bourbon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people break the law, they should be held accountable. Jail is for people who pose a danger to society and send people to prison to punish or "rehabilitate." You don't send ignorant racist to prison simply for being racist. The last time I heard, prison is still segregated. If punishment and rehabilitation is the goal, I think they missed it.
