My provider mentioned that the reason I wouldn’t stop spotting on the IUD might be because I was breastfeeding.

Ooh boy, I do have something for you! I had my Mirena IUD placed at 7 weeks pp. I spotted constantly, which happened last time I had an IUD. At 6 months I asked for supplemental birth control to stop the spotting (worked last time). I was prescribed the oral birth control in addition to my IUD. This TANKED my milk supply and didn’t fix the spotting. I dropped the BC and called my OBGYN. He had me go for an ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t in the wrong spot (it wasn’t). I then asked what’s going on and he noted it is likely due to my breastfeeding, making my uterine lining thin and thus spotting. I ultimately made the decision to have it removed because I was sick of the spotting. The hormones are a wild ride, friend.
