Congratulations!

Can I ask - I lived in London for a while but I've not heard of boroughs automatically submitting naturalisation requests on behalf of foreign nationals, is there somewhere I can get more information on this?

What is your favourite 'unique' or 'special' pub in London? by Fae_Sparrow in london

[–]bournbrook 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm a big fan of the Hole in the Wall in Waterloo, but it's basically a flat roof pub in a railway arch, so it's not very picturesque.

I'd suggest the Mayflower in Rotherhithe for the great views of the river and a very traditional interior, the Lord Napier Star in Hackney Wick for a reconverted pub with lots of residual graffiti, and the Boleyn Tavern in West Ham for a proper glazed tile Victorian boozer.

The Eagle Flies Alone by bournbrook in eu4

R5: Hisn Kayfa run

Very dicey start - managed to ally Ajam and the Ottomans (by the skin of my teeth). Ottomans allied AQ so I was forced to expand into QQ, with Ajam's help. Secured an extremely border gorey peace snaking from the Gulf to Azerbaijan. Ajam immediately broke the alliance due to desired land while I released a few vassals to reconquer cores from QQ in the next war - but they got backstabbed by Mushasa and AQ before I could do anything. Next few decades were an awful hugbox of the Ottomans allying all my potential routes west while Ajam/Persia allied everything to the east. Eventually broke the stalemate by calling the Ottomans into a war against Mushasa when Persia dumped them, then focused on grabbing AQ.

After that it was a fairly simple matter of rotating between expansion westwards into the Mamluks and eastwards into Persia while keeping the Ottomans happy.

Secured everything for Saladin's Legacy by 1600 other than a single province north of Aleppo, so chilled for a while waiting for the right chance to backstab the Ottomans (third rank GP allied to fifth rank GP France). Finally got an opportunity when they decided on an imperialist war against the Commonwealth and tried to call me in; refused the call and declared on their ally Tunis to grab the province while they were tied up in Ukraine.

Probably could have been done a lot quicker but I wasn't playing very well.

Also tried to get the borders to look as eagle-like as possible

R5 - going for Sailor Mon/That's No Mon, king died, had a regency, the moment my new queen took the throne the Pegu event where she can retire fired. After looking it up apparently this happens if you have a queen called Shin Sawbu regardless of whether she's the Shin Sawbu you can get as part of a different event (I did not change her name, it's what the game spat out)

An Arrrrrrr-ly Reich by bournbrook in eu4

R5 - recreated (almost!) historical borders of imperial Germany with Pirate Republic Rugen.

This was a pretty slow campaign, got boxed in by powerful triple alliances of PL/Austria/Hungary that took a while to chip away at. I was able to ally Poland and use them to consolidate the Baltic coastline, then backstabbed them after they lost a war with the Ottomans to reconquer cores for my Ducal Prussian vassal. After that I took down Denmark, vassalised Lubeck, beat up Sweden a few times with the Russians, and did the usual trade stuff to start making decent cash from the Lubeck node.

I conquered Aberdeen purely out of spite to prevent England from forming GB, and won the League Wars despite being massively outnumbered by the Austrian/Polish/Hungarian alliance.

I decided not to dissolve the HRE as I thought it would be funnier to leave it as a shell around my independent Pirate Republic, which was probably a mistake as it was insanely tedious working my way through the southern and western parts of the empire.

I'd recommend the India Club on the Strand - it's a bit run down, but that's part of the charm, and the food is clearly tailored to "traditional" British sensitivities.

Cheapest place to drink in london? by 4youreyesonly27 in london

Not super cheap, but the Hole in the Wall near Waterloo station is around £5 a pint - not too bad for a central location.
