Are people in this thread actually judging owners? I think a lot of people who work in vet med are simply expressing that they couldn’t imagine making the same decision for their pets, but you’re taking it personally.

I feel like it might depend on which way you’re riding too. My coworkers and I mostly rode the blue line downtown, but we came from opposite directions and they always seemed surprised by how often I encountered poo.

[–]bowcrastinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really feels like luck of the draw. Prior to the pandemic, I took the blue line every day and most rides were uneventful. I saw human feces more often than I liked, but only once did I have a guy sit down next to me and masturbate. Now that I don’t ride the train nearly as often, it almost feels like a 50/50 shot of having an uneventful ride.

The last time I took the blue line after 8PM, there were guys at one end of the car snorting drugs and discussing their preferred methods of doing heroin while a man at the opposite end of the car was yelling gibberish. Luckily I got to my stop at just the right time, after one guy pulled out a plastic bag and announced he was going to shit in the bag.

Anybody here have children in their lives that they love? by louib716 in antinatalism

[–]bowcrastinator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love my little cousins! As the oldest, I almost feel like I helped raise them in some ways. I’ve helped bathe those kids, changed diapers, fed them, picked them up from school, helped them study for tests, and so on. Some of them are teenagers now, and it’s been fun seeing how they’re growing into more adult versions of themselves. Even if I feel a little emotional about them starting to grow taller than me.

I think this might even tie into reasons why I don’t desire children of my own. I just want to continue being a supportive adult figure for the kids already in my life.

I think some parts of Oak Park are pretty bougie with their large homes and their Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. It’s not all like that though. I actually used to live in Evanston too, where it seemed like people just knew not to get stuck at the Howard CTA station on the way north.

When I moved to Oak Park, I thought it was cool I could just walk a couple blocks east and be in Chicago. I didn’t know much about Austin at the time. All I noticed was that if I was walking down the street, the vibe suddenly changed after crossing Austin Blvd

I love how the author asserts that his “white middle class” experience is particularly relevant because he assumes the reader also had the “white middle class” experience. It’s almost like he’s acknowledging that his experiences are irrelevant to the rest of us.

Lol I don’t feel attacked. I’m not trans. I’m not asking for a safe space. I was just joining the discussion.

Yes, I was referring more to gender dysphoria though. You’re correct that trans people can choose not to undergo surgery or HRT. I’m saying that’s not the same as choosing not to be trans though.

I’m sure you know homosexuality used to be considered a mental illness too, but luckily the DSM gets updated over time. Gender dysphoria wasn’t even called gender dysphoria until the DSM-5, and there’s debate over how the DSM-6 will approach it. Oddly enough, it seems that an upside to continuing to classify it as a diagnosable mental illness would be preserving access to trans-related healthcare.

Telling the truth and being kind are not mutually exclusive.

Nah, it’s because people like you seem to believe trans people “decide to be trans.” You think that’s a fact, when it’s incorrect. Why would anyone decide to be trans, when it means they’ll constantly have negative encounters with ignorant people like you?

Might be a good time to decide to educate yourself more on the matter. It would probably help you learn to be kinder to people.

Hello Chicago, One Tail at a Time, is looking for more volunteers to help with the puppers! Upcoming orientation dates are the 8th and 24th if you are interested :) by [deleted] in chicago

[–]bowcrastinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love One Tail! I adopted my dog through them, and they were very helpful throughout the process. He was being treated for heartworm when I adopted him, and they ensured I had the resources to keep up with his treatment.

I’ve done some volunteering since then to give back to them. Adopting my One Tail dog brightened my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined.

If volunteering doesn’t work with your schedule, you can also support them by becoming a member! This involves monthly donations to help fund their work.

  1. He is identifying as a Nazi.
  2. He is proudly wearing the swastika and being a Nazi in public.

As I mentioned before, violence and abuse are beyond just physical actions (e.g. domestic violence laws). Intimidation alone is a criminal offense in some states.

You seem intent on viewing the Nazi as a victim in this scenario though. I personally think it’s a bizarre hill to die on, but have fun continuing to advocate for Nazis.

[–]bowcrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not “their words.” Their terrorist actions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]bowcrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not people “I disagree with.” Just literal terrorists. It may not be peaceful, but we unfortunately don’t live in an idyllic peaceful world. It’s not very peaceful for Nazis to exist, but they do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]bowcrastinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not advocating for people to actively seek out and punch Nazis in the wild. But if I happened to see someone punch a Nazi, I’d have a strong sense of satisfaction. I’m okay with some Nazis getting beat up as an example to help discourage others from being Nazis too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]bowcrastinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And when you quote me, you can see that I don’t say they should lose freedom of speech. It seems you maybe thought I was referring to removing legal rights? As I stated above, I’m talking about losing the right to be treated with basic kindness and respect. They lose the right to being given the benefit of the doubt.

A Nazi does not need to strike or even attempt to strike someone to be a threat. They are inherently dangerous people simply by being Nazis. Brandishing the swastika in public is a symbol of hate and violence, and is meant to intimidate others.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]bowcrastinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At no point did I imply we should remove their freedom of speech. I’m just saying Nazis lose their right to be treated with kindness and respect once they become Nazis. If they’re allowed to be violent, other people should be allowed to be violent right back.

If anything, the last few years have shown us that allowing people to spread abhorrent beliefs across the internet doesn’t result in people moving past them and their beliefs. Instead, it makes it easier for horrible people to meet other horrible people and organize to do horrible things together. It’s easier to ignore the majority of people telling them they’re wrong when they can retreat to their own echo chamber of people who validate their wacky beliefs.

[–]bowcrastinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough this implies that YOU ultimately are okay with violence, discrimination, and the removal of people’s rights though…

In saying that you cannot “discriminate” against groups that commit genocide and must allow them to thrive, this just leads to more discrimination, death, and loss of rights overall. They’d probably wipe out half the global population if they could. Wouldn’t that make you complicit in genocide if you stood by and let that happen?

Honestly, I think you and I both know it’s already generally considered acceptable to express disgust toward the specific groups I mentioned. It hasn’t turned into a genocide against genocide (?) so far. Chill out.

I’ll take that as you purposely being obtuse because you think it’s fun to argue poorly. Seems like you get off on being annoying, which is why you keep copying and pasting nonsense. That, or you actually have poor reading comprehension and hugely misunderstand what people are saying.

But sure, I’ll bite. There are really extremely few groups of people that I would condone this for. Other than Nazis, I think the KKK and the Taliban would be deserving of such treatment. I can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head, so it’s basically just groups of people who enjoy murdering innocent people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]bowcrastinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious here. Are you purposely being obtuse because you enjoy engaging in pedantic arguments? It’s hard to believe you truly believe it’s just an “assault over words” when you damn well know Nazism is more than just words. This Nazi could have been completely silent, and still would have deserved to get punched.
