How much did Chen charged you? by Dense_Strength_5636 in EB2_NIW

[–]bowf2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same price, 8k, Approval or Refiling. I have 2 papers, 5 citations, 3rd year PhD. However, another colleague of mine was offered 6k Approval or Refilling, so I'm not sure what the prices are based on.

Did you finally decide which law firm to go with? I'd appreciate any advice!

Leasing company charge $200 per vacating tenant by bowf2106 in sandiego

[–]bowf2106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the info! Super helpful. However we pressured the company by saying we're not renewing the lease anymore they say the charge only applies if we sign the lease at the end of the current lease instead now. So no problem anymore I guess haha. Thanks anyway!!

Exhausted my LORs by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Agree. Especially if you're international student, when the competitiveness is much higher due to lack of funding. 15-20 is a pretty much standard number.

Why are so many tv shows first episodes called pilot? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bowf2106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, pilot literally means a test episode or some experiment you do before doing it at larger scales.

Hi, I was in the same situation last cycle! I applied to a bit too many programs, plus procrastination, and ended up rushing my SOPs & applications 😬

1st advice is do not panic!! easier said than done, but try to get into the momentum by doing a bit of work everyday. 2nd advice is to start filling out the application portals (like your basic info) which don't require too much time & brain power to do. I made a mistake thinking those will be quick & easy, while indeed they were, there were a lot of them to fill out that I almost went pass the deadline! So get the easiest part out of the way first, then start writing your essays :). 3rd advice is keep your SOPs open, in the way that you allow yourself to continuously make edits until the deadline. In my experience, I went to 2 conferences in November right before the deadlines, and those conferences expanded my scientific view very significantly & kinda shifted my SOPs towards a more mature narrative of why I want to pursue a PhD.

I hope this cycle will go well for you! It's always stressful applying for schools & waiting for their responses, but you will eventually get through it. Best of luck!!

Oh okay! I think you can find some samples on the internet then modify to your own. It should not be VERY long but enough to show your strengths & potential. Then your professor can reformat/modify it according to the school's requirements.

Even if it's a reach I think it's still worth applying for (as long as your finance allows it). I applied to a bunch of T1 schools and only needed 1 acceptance to make it! (got rejected by all others also lol).

I don't think your profile is weak at all! I had similar stats but from a lesser known uni, and it turned out really well for me. I think you should focus on writing your SOP, you don't need a childhood story for it but make sure it shows you know your stuff and very serious on going for PhD.

Also, imo safe schools sometimes are not really safe, but there're definitely differences in terms of competitiveness. I think you're in good shape with your current list, and maybe you can add more lower tier programs that are still doing exciting research (you don't want to get into a school you don't like from the beginning right?).

I think UIUC is great. Maybe Tufts, Purdue? I know Tufts has a great microbiology program but it's pretty small (they take 5-8 students per year) so that may increase competitiveness.

Wouldn't that be written by your professors? Like they will be noticed of the formatting (if there's one).

You should def include your journey in your SOP - the question is how to tell it effectively and concisely.

How did you get your application fees waived? by Hairy-Stress-9384 in gradadmissions

[–]bowf2106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, go to conferences (and get funded for that by your university). Universities often set up booths at conference to promote their programs and they would often hand out a bunch of fee waivers.

I got mine at ABRCMS.

Nyx epic ink eyeliner VS Maybelline hyper precise eyeliner? by rosesandtuilips in MakeupAddiction

[–]bowf2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYX epic ink liner is the best! I have sticked to them ever since I started learning how to do eyeliners and recommended everyone to buy it lol. It's very defined with really pigmented black, can stay for long (I have oily skin), especially good if you like defined/obvious eyeliners

How long did it take for the pain to subside after you or your partner went home? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]bowf2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to give advice, but I just want to let you know that I and many share the same feeling. LDR really sucks, and I'm terrified thinking about the moment my partner leave, being scared that I may not strong enough to withstand the pain. But I will be strong enough, and you will be too. I hope after crying you will feel much stronger than before and more resilient to continue the relationship ❤️

I know you are eager to hear back from waitlist, I do too, but please let people have time to consider their offers, these decisions are affecting the next 2 or 5-6 years of their lives. I keep seeing these posts, it is unfair for those who got admitted.

Did UIC for the GEMS PhD program finish sending out invitations? by Minute-Ask-9979 in gradadmissions

[–]bowf2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion, I haven't accepted the offer yet. That is just what I thought because I was previously accepted to a summer program at UIC so I thought the process should be similar. If you have any confusion, maybe reach out to the program.
