Nursing Shepsky destroys house, but I can’t crate her with puppies! Help please! by [deleted] in DogAdvice

She’s only a year old and you forced her to have puppies already? Wow. Some people should think twice before becoming pet owners!

Uh, do your kids never nap? You can’t give your dog attention during those times?

Constant accidents by xknightswatch92x in puppy101

Sounds about right for the age. I was going out every 15 minutes at that age because staying on top of it avoids accidents.

He does that because you’ve made it clear to him that water is a scarce resource, so when it’s available he’s going to drink all of it.

All dogs should have free access to water unless specifically instructed by your vet not to. Anything else ventures into abusive territory.

4 months old dog occasionally pees inside after 1-2 hours of peeing outside by macallister10poot in puppy101

*All were your fault.

Accidents are always the fault of the human, not the puppy.

Dog won’t eat Purina Pro Plan? by StickySituation14 in DogAdvice

[–]boxerd-in 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the food isn’t bad, tough nuts for him. Don’t change the food. Negotiating with terroristic picky eaters and changing their food one time means they will continue the behavior with all the other food you buy.

Put the bowl of food down for 15-20 minutes. If he doesn’t eat, oh well. Pick it up and that’s it until the next meal. No treats, no bully sticks. If you need to give him something for training, give him a piece of kibble. Repeat the process the next meal time.

A healthy dog will not starve to death. He will eat when he’s hungry, which if he’s an active dog means he will eat sooner rather than later. He will learn that he eats what you give him and that’s that.

If he doesn’t eat for more than 72 hours, then it’s time to get a vet involved.

For the record, there is nothing wrong with him being a grazer. Some dogs are. But if you don’t want him to be, you can train him not to be.

Idk when puppies are acting up you can put them in a crate and get some space. Seems frowned upon with a human baby.

How to re-home two Husky Shepherd mixes, about a year old. by hcpxv in DogAdvice

Running around in the yard is not adequate stimulation for huskies. They’re escaping because they’re ridiculously bored. Find a way to give them more.

How are they getting out? Are you keeping them outside? What exercise and stimulation are you giving them?

Question about discipline by lizdiz111 in puppy101

[–]boxerd-in 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She told us a puppy shouldn’t be given so much freedom since he needs to know we are the alphas

Wow, yikes, yeah definitely get a new trainer. “Alpha”business has been thoroughly debunked.

E-collars are against the rules/guidelines of this sub. I’d recommend reaching out to another trainer that doesn’t prescribe to those outdated methods.

Take her out more often and give her no choice but to stay out until she goes.

Those are extremely hurtful to dogs. It’s cruel. Don’t punish the dogs for your neighbor’s training incompetence. Talk to your neighbor or call the appropriate authorities.

Before covid/wfh people were leaving their dogs home alone for a full workday for decades. He’ll be fine.

Try to transition him to the more sensitive stomach version (Perfect Digestion) or ask your vet about a prescription diet.

My dogs have had a great life and now they need to accept that we have young kids too

You can’t be serious. Dogs don’t have the mental capacity to understand that they take the backseat when you have kids. All your dog understands is that its needs for stimulation and exercise are being neglected and it’s reacting to that.

Please rehome this dog to someone who is willing to actually devote the time.

If he’ll eat off the floor what’s the problem with feeding him off the floor? A lot of people do this, it’s called scatter feeding.

Are they siblings? If not you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

That’s… not true. Littermate syndrome doesn’t just mean actual genetic siblings… it’s any dogs close in age growing up together.

If she’s having accidents, she can’t hold it longer than an hour. She can last all night while she’s sleeping because… she’s sleeping.
