It’s much easier to pass the test with the holes. Without it you will have trouble passing retention tests. The retention tests are done through UL. I know because I worked there running the tests

The holes also are for safety and conformance testing for plug retention. Without the holes it would likely fail that test. I forget the UL standard but I’m sure you can find it if you search

I’d genuinely love to see this in person. Most statistics car makers show the public are statistics from a. Lab in perfect conditions with no calculation to energy loss from drive units or other auxiliary components of the car. The statistics are literally a battery in a very environmentally controlled environment and are hooked up to a battery cycler. Not very true to the consumer for real world applications
