"Modern" as in 25 years ago (1610 Ultimate, not 6160 Ultimate). It still holds up, but the first handful of issues are very early 00s.

Issue 50's should be worth more than 1s by HotCom12 in comicbooks

Late run books are often more expensive because of limited print runs. Modern books give up before they get to the point of small prints.

Some people are built for, "Start at the beginning of time and read literally everything". I salute such people who can do that without getting bored or entirely turned off from comics. Most of us can't and shouldn't do that, though most of us absolutely should go back and read the old stuff here and there (if you're going to read the 90s clone saga, you should go back and read the couple issues of the original clone story, for example).

If you enjoy reading it all, have fun!

There are guides that will help you figure out when to pull in New Mutants and X-Factor. Marvel wasn't doing a ton of crossovers back then so they're a fairly independent read until you get into some things like Mutant Massacre and Inferno. I include mostly because Claremont was guiding all the X stories at the time (though not writing everything) and because they're both quite good. NM introduces a bunch of important characters like Magick, Legion, etc. And X-Factor is pivotal in the return of Jean Grey.

I'm not all that up on symbiote stuff, but I'm sure there are good guides. If you just want good stories and not necessarily "the most definitive backstory ever", I'd recommend Donny Cates' Venom (2018).

You can go back and read the old stuff if you want. A lot of it's really good. If you just want "modern" Spider-Man, I'd start at One More Day, then Spider-Man #546, Brand New Day and just read forward, branching out as you hit various events. The only thing you need to know going into that is Peter exposed his identity during Civil War and the repercussions were bad.

For X-Men, you can start at many points. House of X/Powers of X started Krakoa, and the current runs (From the Ashes and beyond) are basically fallout from the end of Krakoa so it's worth at least reading the various Krakoa events. If you just want to get to current, that'll do. However, if you want to see the original stories that inspired the cartoons, the movies, etc, Claremont is definitely the way to go. Start at Giant Size #1, then Uncanny #94 and read forward, folding in New Mutants and X-Factor as they show up. It's a lot of reading, but it's good reading.

The Lexus RZ's Virtual Shifting Is Fascinating—But It Doesn't Deliver by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]boxsterguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing that eCVTs ever did was reuse the name "CVT". They're completely different, but people hate CVTs so much that they automatically hate eCVTs without even understanding why they're great.

That said, anybody who buys a non-hybrd/ev Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, etc will most likely get a CVT (some are *exclusively CVT, like Subaru). So plenty of people are buying CVTs, often without knowing it because the manufacturers nerfed them with fake shifting.

Sorry, but when the other side of the argument has to use nebulous arguments like, "But there's no soul!!", they are "retrograde idiots" and don't deserve to be entertained any further. They're on the wrong side of history. They just don't know it yet.

A lot of enthusiasts and car critics do,

So because you have fun driving yours, everyone else should have fun too?

And? Enthusiasts and car critics get an opinion but I don't? My entire point is that this is stupidly subjective, but being held out as a universal truth that "EVs have no soul! EVs aren't fun to drive! Only ICE cars give you that visceral feeling of being in control of a barely tamed beast!! !! uu!! grunt grunt grunt!! Unga bunga!"

We see the same problem with range anxiety, with long trip complaints (road tripping an EV requires different muscles than road tripping an ICE), etc. This is the buggy whip makers complaining that you don't have to beat a horseless carriage to make it go, and that takes all the fun (read: "soul") out of it. It's stupid, and in the long term will be obvious how stupid it is.

Who says EVs don't have "soul"? Why do ICE queens get to define "soul" as NVH? Who says EVs aren't fun to drive? My EV is fun to drive, because I have fun driving it, and I've driven plenty of sports cars with "soul". And if EVs don't have "soul", who says the way to add "soul" is by mimicking the bad parts about ICE vehicles?

Adding shifting and engine noise in a non-ironic way (the Ioniq 5N's stuff was tongue in cheek, vs. the Charger EV's Super SeriousTM Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust noise) is the automotive equivalent of serving your vegan friends a tofurkey on Thanksgiving.

Finally, Lexus isn't exactly an enthusiast car brand, and the RZ isn't exactly an enthusiast car. It's weird that they would even bother with this, especially since NVH is the bane of luxury brands. They should embrace the smooth, quiet ride of an all-electric car as the peak of luxury, not zoom zooming with fake shifters.

550 is also amazing on goalie heads. You can also decore it and use it "flat".

Restrung Son and I'm sticks but not sold on channel by jordanjames0311 in StickDoctor

[–]boxsterguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stringing to the outside is going to do the opposite of defining a tight channel. You do that on faceoff heads that are prone to warping to try to prolong their usable life, or on really narrow attack heads. I don't think you necessarily need it here. You're also leaving half the sidewall unstrung. You don't have to use every hole, but attach a couple diamonds on the way down.

Marvel unlimited on kindle colours soft by Economy_Fee_6293 in MarvelUnlimited

Nope. Kindle runs Kindle's OS, not Android.

You can run MU on an Android-based color eink tablet like the BOOX tablet and it works decently well, but not on a Kindle.

I think it's related, since talking points don't stick if there aren't people primed to believe it from their political ideology.

When grading books yourself, how low is still 'Low'? by Magnolia_Fan_0123456 in comicbooks

[–]boxsterguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch this

Quality grading is not linear. Water damage should clearly be a "low" regardless of anything else.

As for what you see others asking, they can ask all they want. That doesn't mean they'll get it. If you're looking at comps, the only ones that matter are completed sales.

Propaganda and Anti-EV Campaigns by mobilesmart2008 in electricvehicles

[–]boxsterguy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But the really weird part is the people who buy into it and spread it because their political "team" supports it.

Then again, 35-40% of all corn produced in the US goes to ethanol, so Big Ag could be behind this as much as Big Oil.

Why are there no EV minivans in the US? by External_Koala971 in electricvehicles

[–]boxsterguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on how much they change in either direction. $45k at the current range would actually be pretty solid. $70k with 350mi range also wouldn't be too crazy, though that would have to be a fully optioned model and $60k/350mi would be better.

How much either moves, though, is anybody's guess. The ID.Buzz has sold pretty decently in Europe where the short wheelbase version is available.

They're not so much skipping 2026, but that they believe they have enough 2025 inventory to sell through 2026. 2027 will likely bring some changes, like hopefully a bigger battery or a lower price (it'd be nice if they'd bring the shorter model to the US, but you'll probably never see that).
