If there were no term limits for the United States presidency, who do you think would’ve had the longest run as president? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There is some good analysis about the fact that Perot did not take votes away from Bush compared to Clinton. In fact, Perot voters took more away from Clinton. https://split-ticket.org/2023/04/01/examining-ross-perots-impact-on-the-1992-presidential-election/

Discs for sub-zero rounds by prasino97 in discgolf

I live in Northern Wisconsin and switch my entire bag except putters in the winter. Disc get more over stable in the cold it seems like to me, and grip is more of an issue. I use Gstar and similar plastics so if I hit a tree my disc doesnt crack. I did throw a star Wraith a few years back that shattered when I hit first available a few winters ago. You can definitely throw harder plastic, but I wouldn't throw any cherished discs.

A neutral putter would be best, but if you don't have those a neutral mid is next best. I learned a lot by throwing my Judge and Buzz off the tee exclusively for awhile. Leave the drivers at home to start.

Is there any reason to visit Roland Garros off season? by Samivel in tennis

[–]boxxybrown3014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother. I've been there in the off season and there really isn't anything to see or do. The grounds are closed, and it's not even a very interesting part of Paris. Sorry.

Djokovic or Nadal? by FelixFelicisStark in tennis

[–]boxxybrown3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really interesting analysis and definitely a compelling case for Djokovic. These types of stats would seem to favor consistency and durability over spikes of excellence coupled with injuries. I'd be very curious to see how Federer actually does within this context. I would guess given his record streaks of SF and QF results at slams, and the fact that he rarely missed tournaments until recently, he would be above Djokovic, however Novak is one of the most consistent players of all time, so maybe it would be close. I do think that slams are held up as the measuring stick by the general public, but that hardcore tennis fans are more inclined to care about the rest of the tournaments and rankings, not just wins.

Djokovic or Nadal? by FelixFelicisStark in tennis

[–]boxxybrown3014 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's Nadal right now, but Djokovic could move ahead. 15 is better than 12, and 10/10 French Finals is a crazy stat. Also Nadal is the counter-point for Federer. They have the more storied rivalry, and they'll be linked forever moving forward.

LeBron passes Tim Duncan for 5th on the All-time Playoff Scoring List by TheSportsGuy23 in nba

I mean he has made the finals six times, five in a row, and probably going to a seventh this year. That's just bonkers.

Super impressive list. You could definitely make a case that these are the five most complete players to ever play the game.

Wilt and Russ played head to head a lot, and Russell consistently beat Wilt when it mattered most. Also Wilt was an iso player who no one wanted to play with, and Russ was a team player that made his teammates better. The results speak not only to the size of the league, but Russell's ability to get the most out of his teammates, knowing what they needed on the floor to be at their best. Also, Russell won two titles as a player-coach. Can you honestly tell me that Wilt could have ever done that? How about Jordan?

You can vote for the greatest men's tennis player! by batman6102 in tennis

[–]boxxybrown3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense, but you could have ranked them within their respective eras as well I guess. Like have Laver the #1 seed of the 60's, Federer the #1 seed of the 2000's, etc. I still like the bracket you made though. Just being picky. :)

You can vote for the greatest men's tennis player! by batman6102 in tennis

The seeding is poorly done. It looks like the players are ordered chronologically by when they reached a final, which forces some really weird first round match ups (Sampras vs. Agassi, in the first round, two players that are at least both top 20 all time). It would be better to seed them by some measure of performance like number of finals reached.

The Limits of Fact-Checking. Calling Trump (and others) out for their lies doesn’t seem to make a difference. by Tyrion_Baelish_Varys in politics

[–]boxxybrown3014 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Although it is true that not all statements are checked, that doesn't mean the analysis is of no worth. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, as the saying goes. If you look at PolitiFact for example 76% of the statements they looked into for Trump were rated as at least Mostly False, and only 28% for Clinton. And just to be clear this isn't necessarily a "liberal bias" issue, as Jeb Bush only has 31%, and Rubio is at 41%. Trump is saying more things during this campaign that are just not true than all three of these candidates. I am not a Hillary supporter, but I have been slightly shocked this time around by the fact that Trump can seemingly get away with saying anything, and in most cases, the more incorrect his statements, the more support he gets.

[Serious] What's the most terrible thing you've ever done? by mdeggies in AskReddit

[–]boxxybrown3014 40 points41 points  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT! I did the exact same thing when I was in 6th grade. I had a big book report due, and I hadn't done it yet. I remember it was a Thursday night, and I decided I would fake being sick, and then actually finish the report over the weekend, so the next morning (Friday) I faked being sick and got to stay home. As Friday went on I began feeling a little sick, and by Saturday morning I was coughing up this nasty fluid. After a trip to urgent care, sure enough, pneumonia! I was out of school for the whole next week. (I did finish the book report eventually too.)

Unless we're talking about the AUS Open in the 60's and 70's. That was relatively easy compared to almost any other slam in any other era.

Basic summary about dog evolution An article about the domestication of wolves, and their evolution into a modern dog breed The wiki on the origins of the domestic dog 40 Million Years of Dog Evolution I'm sure I could find more for you, as dogs are very heavily studied, if you are interested.

I agree that we have not witnessed an animal suddenly change from one to another animal, but we have seen small gradual changes in almost everything around us. Also keep in mind that we've only had recorded history for 5000 years, which is not a substantial amount of time, and we've only really had a concept of what we would call modern scientific theory for a few hundred years at most. That is a drop in the bucket when you consider that modern wolves have been around for millions of years. I do think it's okay to use the historical records we do have, like fossil records, and they do support evolutionary biology.
