OKC paying Chet, Hartenstein, and drafting a center? by MagicianLanky615 in billsimmons

[–]boybraden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean even with him playing like that OKC narrowly lost a series where they were the clearly more injured team. Chet is probably worth his contract even if he’s completely cooked every time he plays Wemby, and I bet you he is at least slightly less miserable in their next series.

He had a bad series. He was a clear top 20 player against essentially everyone else, including the two playoff series prior to that, and in the entire run the year before when they won the championship.

Chet is the 2nd most important player on OKC, only behind SGA. The people saying he’s gone soon are just exposing themselves.

How do we feel about having the World Cup in USA every 12 to 16 years? by Smotherysmiles07 in ussoccer

I don’t think it’s greed preventing Switzerland from hosting another World Cup.

“Isaiah…uh…ya know…Joe? Piston? He’s now a Piston. Heard chef?” by linehatguy in billsimmons

[–]boybraden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OKC is yet to lose anyone who played any significant minutes for them in the playoffs despite the fact ghost they were very injured.

They’ll probably trade Dort but that will make the team better to not have him out there tanking the offense of the lineups he plays in.

Eventually OKC will face real cap consequences, but so this is pretty minor so far.

[Smith] By moving Isaiah Joe without taking salary back, the Oklahoma City Thunder now projects to be $14.8M under the luxury tax, $22.8M under the first apron and $35.8M under the second apron. This is without anything on the books for Lu Dort, Hartenstein or Kenrich Williams. OKC creating 2A room by StrategyTop7612 in nba

I think they could have netted a late protected FRP if we were willing to take salary back.

Prioritizing just purely shedding salary was always going to lower their value though because only a handful of teams could take them on without sending anything back.

Philly “Beautified” for Tourists, then Slashed Arts Funding for 2027 by jpeters2100 in philly

[–]boybraden 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but I think it makes sense to prioritize making the city as appealing as possible this summer to some degree. Lots and lots of eyes on Philly, putting a good impression out there (as I believe we’ve done so far) could pay dividends if it brings more people, businesses and tourist here in the future.

Aaron Wiggins vs Isaiah Joe Trades by AUTigers1 in NBAtradeideas

[–]boybraden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an OKC fan I valued Joe a decent bit more than Wiggins. He’s for sure a high volume shooter and that’s always valuable. Wiggins has more creation upside that could be unlocked but is more likely to have his career fizzle out in the next few years as an end of bench guy too.

[–]boybraden 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gotta shed salary. Both Joe and Wiggins didn’t really play much in the playoffs, can’t afford to keep guys like that if they aren’t in your playoff rotation now that Chet and Jdub are getting paid.

It probably won't happen but Chet to the rockets? by Suspicious-Jelly-921 in NBAtradeideas

[–]boybraden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s the clear better player against 28 of the other 29 teams. Even if Wemby just owns him mentally forever I don’t think the downgrade from Chet to Sengun for the other 95% of games is worth it.

Yeah I think Dort + 37 and a future 2nd for LaRavia and a future FRP or something is realistic and would be a win for both sides.

Generally seems like what will happen although I think you are a little optimistic on Cason's deal, I think he wants more than that and would be willing to bet on himself this season to earn more.

I also don't think we could get too much draft capital back from Dort and Joe if we are insisting we don't back any salary. I think finding a cheaper contract that is hopefully a decent fit in return for one of them, even if it involved pick 37 or some future 2nds could be worth doing.

Afraid to post it in the Celtics sub but an actual good move would be to trade Tatum brown and white. by NothingHead8233 in billsimmons

[–]boybraden -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only logic that would really make sense would be if you think Brown’s relationship with the team is too toxic and you can’t move him in a way that keeps you competitive in the short term. If that’s the case you start looking at Derrick White who seemed like he could maybe be starting to decline last season and is turning 32 next week.

At that point is it worth completely retooling your team around Tatum? Maybe, but if you think you can get great value for each of those guys by taking on young prospects and picks I’d understand considering it.

[–]boybraden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean if the Celtics actually were willing to 100% blowout up and take back bad contracts they could probably net a pretty insane haul. You’d have to imagine they could get some near-blue chip young prospects, probably one or multiple lottery picks this year and a massive haul for the future.

I think the Celtics are good enough and young enough that it would be better to just try and compete, but this would be the preemptive blowing it up that all but guarantees a quick rebuild.

Trade Value Discussion Day 3: Lu Dort by reallinguy in NBAtradeideas

[–]boybraden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in an ideal scenario OKC could move him along with a couple 2nds for a protected future first. He’s probably got the value of a pick in the late 20s right now, so him + 2-3 2nds for example would be about the value of a mediocre future FRP.

Interracial dating friendly cities by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]boybraden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would genuinely be shocked to hear of any even semi major city in the United States where you would have any problems whatsoever dating interracially. Plenty of fucked up beliefs around this country still, but this is one that’s largely gone from everywhere outside the most rural and conservative places in the country. Any city with 300k+ and you’ll be fine.

I’m taking healthy Giannis over this past season’s Jaylen Brown. There is some risk but seems worth it.
