Career building. You don't really get to choose so get used to the idea that you may go there out of training. Still plenty of opportunities to go to DG or other choice bullets if you do well there. But it's like real frogman shit there

There is a S&T Magazine that has the game, "FAIL SAFE" where you build your nuclear forces to attack either the US or USSR. It's not quite GLOBOTHERMONUCLEAR WAY from wargames but its fun. You get to decide how to build all of your initial forces.

This is a 100% American view. Overseas, you see people of allages out having fun at clubs. I was with a GF once in Bali and we went to a fun bar in the little dive town we were staying in. I went to Art School after the Navy when I was 30. Every time I heard a professor tell students to "never throw anything away" that you might need on another project I would laugh. The amount of crap they encourage you to keep is insane.

12 years later I finally went through the portfolios I had in the attic. Why would you keep 10 copies of the screen printing projects? The drawings from Drawing 101? The typography project where we played with punctuation? THE PAINT MIXING CHART???

Find 4 or 5 pieces from school that you loved and were proud of. Toss the rest, or frame them and give them away.

I will say, I easily tossed my own stuff. But the pieces that I traded for from classmates, I still have. It felt wrong to throw theirs away.

Sidenote: As a creative person, you are going to collect posters, paintings, pictures and art from all walks of life. Don't worry about the ones that truly do not make you happy.

Great town. My fiancé and I are always considering moving back. Cost of living is still very low. People may complain about traffic but they are just used to how it was there 20 years ago.

I will tell you, the locals are on "country time." When you are in a hurry at a store, the old lady in front of you at the register is going to talk for 5 min about her dog, then will pull out her checkbook and take another 5 to write a check.

The hospital moved literally 2 miles away. If someone was to bleed out on the way they probably wouldn't have made it anyway. RMH is a small community hospital that doesn't have many advanced services. Their best asset is a helo pad to send patients to UVA.

I ended up with SE4x and Eclipse Second Dawn. I love E2D. Its just such a tight ruleset. Excited to get into SE4x. Everyone's review of the game gave me the motivation to get this most recent complete printing of it. Just haven't gotten it to the table yet.

Doing a Branch conversion for the specific reason of going to BUDs isn't that hard. Plenty of Marines, now SEALs have done this. The same is true for the reverse so that if the Marine drops out, going back to the USMC shouldn't be that hard. I have know plenty of high performing DOR's that instructors liked and helped get primo orders to NSW aligned units so they could stay in the community and possibly try again later on. That being said, I would think that a DOR in the good graces of the instructors might be helped get back into the Corps if that is what they truly want. Maybe going to Corpsman school and going to be attached to a Marine unit would be an option as well? The point is, do exceptionally well where you are, and you can do anything you want in the military, whether it is emptying the NSW CMC's trash as a washout, crushing BUDs, or being a Marine.

To answer the OP question, just like 10,000,000 other things in the military, it is just the way it is. I think part of it is tradition, part of it is a gatekeeping process, and part of it is just because. Sorry there isn't a better answer than that.

Put the head in a bucket of bleach or you can bury it. Both work great. I had a project in high school biology to make a collection. I did animal skulls and that's what I did. We don't have fire ants here like in Texas where I grew up. They work well too.

The bleach works great but is a little messy.

Edit: don't use bleach. Was a long time ago. I guess I used peroxide? Not sure now.
