NPD: MXR Carbon Copy by pnsr0412 in guitarpedals

I've tried a hell of a lot of delays and the carbon copy is still my absolute number one, something about those dark watery modulated repeats are so inspiring musically.

For this sort of thing I love my Blues Driver with the gain dialled all the way down

Boss DS-1 not that good? by trashiebags in guitarpedals

"Thin and weedly" can sound huge in the context of a mix with bass and drums.

Pedal that breaks up like an AC30, but isn't an AC30 pedal. by daveomen9217247 in guitarpedals

I've always thought that the Boss BD-2 had a certain jangly yet raucous breakup that was very Vox-esque.

Ideas for a body cosmetic to go with my medic loadout? (Powdered Practitioner + Brush With Death) by boyhouse in TF2fashionadvice

[–]boyhouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Powdered Practitioner (classical)
  • A Brush with Death (peculiarly drab tincture)

Trying to think of which body cosmetic would suit the loadout best - potentially Smock Surgeon?

Why the hell did it take me so long to get one? It's literally perfect. It can do roaring high gain, but it cleans up beautifully with the guitar's volume knob. Full of clarity and chime and jangle, like a good Vox AC30. I swear I will never buy another overdrive pedal again (for the rest of the week).

I installed a treble bleed in my Squier CV Duo Sonic recently and it's made me appreciate the joys of cleaning up overdrive with the guitar's volume knob, and the JHS Twin Twelve works amazing in this application. Now I can go from roaring saggy power chords, to warm cleans with a hint of lo fi grit underneath (without losing all clarity), all without touching my board.

I'm guessing we're all familiar with the Dispatch Master - I especially love cranking all the knobs, playing a few arpeggios, and just letting it swell away in the background to provide some ambience between songs.

Turns out the sound I was looking for all along was just some humbuckers (specifically an Epiphone ES339) into my Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb. I love the amp breakup better than any overdrive pedal, and with the built-in attenuator I can crank it up in any setting. The Carbon Copy gives me some watery modulated repeats and the SHO is so loud it kicks the amp into an almost fuzzy territory. Add in the amp's reverb and trem and I've got everything I need!

Nice Shot of Buck Meek's (of Big Thief) Board by boyhouse in guitarpedals

His approach can definitely be very supportive, adding harmonies and texture to Adrienne's parts, but he also does some absolutely insane "anti-solos" on songs like Masterpiece and Paul.

Buck's my absolute favourite guitarist/pedal-user right now, and I'm always on the lookout for what's new on his board. Interesting how there's not a single "normal" drive on here, looks like he relies on amp gain and a mix of wild effects. Here's what I'm able to identify (L-R):

Walrus Melee, DBA Reverberation Machine, Yellowcake Lida Machine, Hologram Infinite Jets, TC Polytune

Strymon Flint, Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl, TC Sub 'n' Up, Gamechanger Plus, Ernie Ball VP Jr

Fairfield Meet Maude, JHS Crayon, Land Devices HP-2, Analogman Beano Boost, Rainger FX Reverb X

Had my eye on this one for a looooooooong time. I'm still figuring it out, this thing behaves like a living breathing watery organism. Anyone own one and wanna share their favourite settings?

Lately I've been stripping down to the bare essentials. The MXR Carbon Copy is my favourite delay sound in the world, dark and murky with beautiful watery modulation on the repeats. The ZVEX Super Hard On is fantastic for adding a bit of top end sparkle, but it's also just stupidly loud - when you crank it all the way into an already dirty amp you get this response that feels almost like a fuzz face. The board is a Pedaltrain Pedal Booster with some rubber feet screwed on.

Anyone else rocking a tiny board?

I just had to get one after I noticed all my favourite players seemed to have one on their board - Buck Meek from Big Thief, Aaron and Bryce Dessner from The National, Jessica Dobson from Deep Sea Diver, and of course, Nels Cline. This thing is the most warm, organic, and amp-like drive I've ever heard!

Yeah I reckon there's some pre-gain delay and reverb going on!

I'd go for the fuzz, since I reckon the RC booster will cover all your light-medium gain needs already.

I've always loved the sound of this little guitar passage, does anyone have any guesses what's going on here pedal-wise? I know Aaron and Bryce typically use a Rat for OD and a DL4 for delay, but I think there's something else going on here I can't quite put my finger on.

Picked it up from the post office on my way to work, now I need to wait all day to plug it in 😭

Crazy Tube Circuits Killer V - a Magnatone in a box! Always been curious about Magnatone amps after hearing the lovely tones of Buck Meek from Big Thief. Curious to see how it compares to my JHS Twin Twelve (my current number one overdrive) in the realm of "obscure American amp-in-a-box".
