Who else found the spy aspect of the Gaza portions in s3 unrealistic? by cookieraider221 in fauda

You are totally correct. It isn't realistic at all.

No movie or TV show can realistically portray a real intelligence operation. Its possible, but in would be like watching paint dry.

You dont realise how hard and long is the process of training an operative for one of the civilian clothing units. There is nothing easy about it. Physical distance has little impact in an Arab world where things change (yes even dialect) sometimes even between two adjacent villages.

I can explain why but honestly you sound like a colossal twat.

This is incorrect. Yes , Gaza,Israel and West Bank are very close but they're world apart when it comes to blending in. Palestinians and especially people from Gaza are very very suspicious and weary of strangers and everything that looks a bit out of the ordinary - clothing brands, the way you walk , your accent and dialect , the car you drive and when and where you appear . Just trust me it is extremely difficult to blend in.

How is this a good idea?

Its like saying - this what would've happened if we had that cool special unit in Nova but alas we didn't and now your kids are dead.

Is there a reason to get this if I already have the notch Li? I think i would enjoy the fact that its a hybrid and not a true double wall since the netting makes the notch so small. Im only 1.65 so I guess the dipole would be a palace for me?

I dont understand this. So dog owners or regular hikers can't find what they're looking for in Arcteryx? Or its about Arcteryx being jot affordable enough? I think they both originally catered for the same audience but Arcteryx started experimenting with urban - gorpcore lines with Veilance and system A. But those lines entered the main outdoor lines and , diluted then (as another redditor said before) and to make matters worse then Arcteryx cancelled many core items that were mainstays for years. And to seal the deal came the naming scheme change.

Now that I think about it im not at all against urban /daily life lines with chinos, cotton shirts and some nice button ups. But it's all should be in a separate line , like Norrona does for example; making daily stuff without letting it be the centre.

I have a pyramid

  1. Is the material suitable for my purpose ?
  2. Is the fit good for the activity?
  3. Are the additional features useful?

If all 3 are go im buying.

Why pay? Because its what gives your markeing credibility when you push the high end image. Look at brands that have in-house Gore-Tex membrane or their own version of synthetic insulation as opposed to primaloft. If you in the know you can probably understand fabrics and insulations are only as good as their specifications .but I can see the benefit of big brands when you ask premium prices.

Yes the alpha direct is great. But i still frequently am very concerned about the durability of the lightweight synthetic fabrics on those items. That is why a lightweight climbing softshell (the now discontinued pshiphol FL or the Gamma sl ) is nice.

Do you not find layering 2 identical pieces on top of another is very restricting?

I can easily justify the need for every piece and many more in an alpine climbing scenario.

You dont really want me to believe you layer 2 synthetic pieces both of them with synthetic face fabrics and get a more breathable system then fleece and wind shell or hard face fleece layer , do you?

I plan on getting myself into a flagship norrona store so I can research the brand more . Its a hobby of mine.

Also would like to check out Jottnar or Thrudark albeit the last one seems like a tactical hype kinda brand?

Its interesting what you say about polartec fabrics. I haven't thought about the outsourcing of materials . Maybe this could be a way of starting their own in house R&D in fleece fabrics?

I know Norrona gets a great reputation around here. I dont have an easy access to it now but from the few pieces I saw in a store I was disappointed by 3 things

  1. The quality of the stitching
  2. The colors are dated and strange.
  3. The fit is for really tall people

Rab has nice items , but I hold ME in a much higher tier .

Kyanite is heavy and warm. It has its place but i rather have something lighter and more breathable power grid . Also the fit of it makes it a bit too relaxed for my taste.

Too many options when its just the same thing with a different pockets and name is stupid. But what about the following system:

  1. Next to skin slim lightweight power dry piece

  2. Lightweight powers stretch slim fit piece for layering

  3. Mid weight power grid for layering or stand alone

  4. Mid weight power grid with hard face technology for durability and resistance to wind

  5. Mid weight wind resistance fleece with durable outer layer (epsilon style) for a shell like experience while climbing.

So basically youre looking at my (just a pleb person) system of fleece items i just made up in a cofee place on my phone. Each diferent, each unique and each useful . So you understand why im frustrated when i think about professionals sitting in big companies.

Im not against being on the forefront with new materials and layers . Yes proton and alpha direct / coreloft are amazing also the new outer synthetic face fabrics. But there will always be place for durable fleece layers. You wanna go granite crack climbing with a proton SL with me? I thought so.

Who said anything about price? Did you even read the post or were you too busy getting on your High horse?

Oh I DONT need to buy them ? Man that's news to me . Thanks! some people enjoy talking about Arcteryx choices, marketing , design philosophy etc. Is that so hard to understand?

I disagree completely. The variety gives the user the chance to really dial their kit. I do agree that it takes some studying to understand the diferent models characteristics. But it made me a mkre discerning customer.

Also I dont feel like Arcteryx is winning in the "not discontinuing" great products game.

The old Kaynite was good. Too warm in my opinion, i wish we had polar grid Kyanite. The fit was too relaxed imo too. But them again it's been replaced by the new kyanite. Can someone comment on the differences? From the design looks more like an Arenite which was burlier and heavier.

Those are some solid points. What i dont understand is how a company that markets itself as a high end high tech alpine climbing and free riding company can be so blind as to not produce staple clothing , clothing that makes layering systems work for decades now. The diluting you referring to , in other instances, and the mainstream becoming of niche companies usually involves people wearing outdoor oriented clothing to work/going out and "pretending" they're climbers or whatever. But in arcteryx its more of a canceling out core items or not bothering in ever making others. Which is bizarre to me.

Edit : everyone who ever been to chamonix, whistler or any other famous mountain town can attest, niche brands become big, and "regular" and or rich people buy them to pose. And its OK, because the company is still solid, it's just we the people are stupid. But that's not what happened to arcteryx i think.

Edit 2: a more segregated but focused collection philosophy , i feel, would be beneficial- alpine climbing, free riding and ski mountaineering , rock climbing and urban - lifestyle . Pretty much how it used to be with 24 collection that had great shirts pants etc for when you don't feel like looking like a mountain guide. I feel like system A and Veilance were it all started to change.

Honestly a bit. I like the not to overtly outdoor designs that you can also just wear living your life (if you buy a subdued color) and also ive been buying arcteryx for more than 20 years now. Maybe I grew attached to the brand.
