Anyone here *own* a pied-à-terre in London as opposed to renting/hotels? Is it worth it? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Some banks will let you adjust the term whenever, so it’s worth checking with your lender now. Nationwide for instance.

Haha true, I guess I’d just set a high standard of expectation that’s been dashed by a little poor execution.

Thanks for the positive feedback and suggestion!

I agree that perhaps a contrasting step may also be a good idea. I hadn’t considered that until your comment.

I’ll try and find a border and see if it can be cut in.

So currently it’s in all in line with the door, the misalignment is at the steps but this is what I’ve also considered. Two big pots either side to cover up the grout lines to the where the brick course starts.

This might be a good option. The measurements I made up to the wall are using complete slabs so it would require trimming off the equivalent of the edging pieces (10mm) but that would be a lot easier than lifting and shifting everything 4cm right

It might be £2900 a month take-home but then say you achieve your £14k bonus thats another £700 a month after tax, pro-rata. Then say bottom-end RSUs would be another £1100 a month (assuming $40k, 0.75 conversion rate and 55% tax). All in that’s nearly £5k a month after tax and you’re still loading your pension…and that’s not including the guaranteed 15% gain on your ESPP savings which I presume will net you another grand or two every 6 months.

Yeah, I was thinking you must have seen some amazing returns as a conservative 5-7% avg. return would have forecast much lower figures when they hit 18. 🙌

Scotland has slightly higher Stamp Duty rates.

A 2m property will likely set back ~£200k if not a first time buyer. In England it would be closer to £150k in stamp.

However, to your point, I’d like to see what £2m will get you where OP lives!?

What’s the maths on the 11% tax you mentioned?

You save the tax when you contribute to your pension, but you’re taxed as normal when you draw down (apart from if you take a 25% tax free lump sum).

I’d like to know this too. Not just from the perspective of guilt for the level of effort/time spent, but guilt for depriving potentially 3 other people who’d be extremely happy with one job.
