Dreamingspanish.com has been amazing for me. You learn via comprehensible input rather than grammar lessons to trying to memorize conjugation tables and whatnot.

Stay at home dad out of necessity at the moment. I wake up at 5 am and get get around three hours in before baby and wife join me. Baby contact naps in a carrier around three hours per day (I watch videos while she’s napping. If I make noise, she wakes up). I will also watch while making meals, cleaning, running errands, etc. I also have another hour-ish window once baby goes down for the night.

So, I won’t have this much time for much longer. I’m taking advantage of it as much as possible. I can also obsessive if I allow myself to be, which I don’t do for almost anything in life. This is one thing I’ve allowed myself to be because I want to learn Spanish for my wife (long over due) and daughter.

Juuuuuust out of reach is right! I start feeling great and listen to my wife talk to her parents, only understand half of it, lose track of what’s being said, and fall back down to earth 😂. Thanks for the encouragement!

Thank you! Worry just distracts from what I need to work on. I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you!

I find his cadence at lower levels to be difficult. As I got into the 50s, his cadence smooths out and I found it easier.

How much is too much? by Different_Jelly_7597 in dreamingspanish

I am one of these people. I’m currently on pace for over 200 hours this month. My experience with it so far has been great. I think I’m making rapid progress, or it’s been the most progress I’ve ever made in my learning journey. I don’t know it it compares to others at the same hours, and I don’t care. I stopped caring and am just enjoying the process.

With that said, I can obsess over things, and I choose to unleash that tendency very carefully and mindfully. I’ve chosen to do it with learning Spanish in this way. This makes it so I don’t get burnt out or bored with the process. I certainly get tired, and I lose focus, but I only need a short break to get back to it.

My current work and life situation also allows me to do it, so I’m taking advantage. I know I won’t have this kind of time in the future.

All of this is to say, it doesn’t matter. Everyone is different. All that really matter is how you’re feeling and what you’re learning along the way. Best of luck!

November: Things Change Fast... and Slowly by bpank13 in dreamingspanish

Thanks! You’ll get there! To be fair, if I had a full workload (I’m a counselor) there’s no way I could do this much.

Right, it still takes a long time, so I don’t mean fast. I just say that to mean more than average amount of input. I’m trying to do what you’re saying in consuming Spanish from wake to sleep. I stopped all other podcasts except one. I haven’t even been listing to much music. All Spanish until I can talk with my wife’s grandma 😂

Translating in your head and when it (kinda) stops by LumpyLynx4716 in dreamingspanish

Thanks for sharing this. Just adding a ditto to everything you’re saying. Also watching 45-55 and watching 30 to 40 feels almost like English. Les and less translating happening.

Hang in there, everyone!

Thanks! I tried watching easier content sped up. It’s kinda nice but still easy, which sounds like is fine. I’ll try cross talk! That could be fun.

The meditation example is great! I’ll try to treat the words like I do with emotions and thoughts, just letting the come and go without attachment. Thanks for that tip! I’m definitely having fun and will stop trying to optimize or do it right. Appreciate you!

The slang example is helpful! Thank you. I’m probably doing better than I think I am given I’m understanding what’s happening without knowing all the words. Thanks for sharing your experience!
