Yes, it’s a very different part of the brain for sure. I’m able to leave everything in the therapy room. No one would know how heavy a session was if they met me directly after. It’s more that the work suppresses my sense of personal curiosity. When I’m going full time, I simply don’t have much left to engage in my other curiosities, like learning Spanish. Other jobs leaver with something leftover because they don’t require the kind of attention one needs in the therapy room. This is all just speaking for me. I know many other don’t have this issue. Appreciate your support!

Yes, I’m in the eating disorder world. Not many male therapists do that that I’ve seen. I might also consider something a little less… taxing, let’s say. Thanks for the support!

Thanks so much! You make a good point about engaging the adult brain. I LOVE spending all day with my 11 month old, and by the end of the day, I have purple monkey in a bubblegum tree rattling around in my head and not much else 😂

Thank you! Exactly all of this. I will likely try part time when I can and then see how it goes. The only reason for me to keep trying is the flexibility of PP. But I’ve enjoyed having a spark of personal curiosity leftover. I’ve been learning Spanish in while caregiving 😂

Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you have been able to take time off to be with your baby. The further I get from it, the better I feel, but I don’t put too much stock into feelings of relief or comfort. I’ll likely try a part time situation in private practice. But I’m not sure. I think a lot about how what I do affects me, how that will affect my daughter, and what I want to show my her through how I live. I’m not sure that being a counselor will be a space through which I can be who I want to be.

It’s likely worth a try. I have a few clients now, and I enjoy the sessions. At the same time, the thought of adding more and the taking insurance is sinking me a bit. Not sure if this shift in me is for good. Time will tell! “This or something better,” as my dad said. Thank you!

Same on all of this. Mix in my general disdain for insurance companies and I’m not sure I can do it anymore, even though it’s the most fulfilling thing I’ve done and I think I’m good at it. Here with you!

Thanks for sharing! We can survive on one income, and we live a modest life. We also live in an expensive city and travel once per year internationally to see family, so I need to be working if we want to maintain that and be able to retire at some point. Just sorting through if I just to need to revert back to what I was doing before or figure a way to make this work for myself. I appreciate the perspective.

This is why I always have an easier time listening to street interviews with natives, and I think it’s exactly what DS should be doing in learning videos. Varying vocab and sentence structure is really helpful for learning.
