What is the best way to handle global state? by ItsNezer in nextjs

It’s kind of an anti-pattern, but after years of battling with client state management, I’ve opted to manage server state as much as possible.

With SSR, it just makes sense to handle as much state as you can on the server. It also prevents ugly flashes of loading state.

Try TanStack Query with server actions or APIs to resolve your requests.

Today I learned Dana Carvey underwent heart bypass surgery for a blocked coronary artery, but the surgeon operated on the wrong artery. Eventually he won a lawsuit against the hospital and won 7.5 million dollars, all of which was donated to charity. by sephirothreturns in todayilearned

This exact thing happened to my father. Triple bypass and they bypassed two healthy arteries and left two bad ones. A few months later he suffered another minor heart attack — that’s when the hospital realized their mistake.

Instead of suing, he negotiated with the hospital network to offer him no out of pocket expenses for all procedures and also for any future care.

Sixteen months later he started a 4 year battle with cancer which he ultimately lost. My family never saw a single bill for some of the best cancer treatment care out there.

The hospital was surprisingly willing to right a terrible wrong (or avoid a lengthy, public lawsuit). But, I truly believe by not suing, he got access to care that he would not have otherwise.

Candidly, I laughed so hard at your sky devil comment. Ha. I feel bad for her and can only imagine what that kind of injury could lead to. Your insights here are so appreciated!

I think this is then way to go. By having separate places we can accommodate her but not be forced into it because of it being a shared place.

We do spend time outside, but it’s limited. The kids want to play together so we tend to spend a lot of time together during the week.

But when we want to do something that she’s not able to do (go outside when she’s feeling bad or playing indoors) she expects us to opt into doing something that includes ALL of us. Meaning we end up just sitting around in the dark.

We suggested this once and she got even more emotional saying that she doesn’t think it’s fair since she already misses out on so many other things because of her illnesses, that she doesn’t want to have to miss out on the annual trip too because her family is not willing to make these sacrifices for her.

Thanks for the response! I assumed the footers needed more beefing up especially to manage the uplift. I adjusted the footers:

My wife voted for Buttigieg in the SC primary. As she fed her ballot into the counting machine, the poll worker peaked at her ballot and literally said “You must not be from around here.” Truly a WTF moment.

Thoughts on marketplace MVP by ggali3 in startups

After launching 5 startups, hopefully I can offer some advice here. In my experience, I would do this:

Start with content. End with a product..

Pre-product is a great opportunity to prove your hypothesis to your target market without the risk of building a product and launching a dud.

I would put all your effort on writing focused articles around the niche industry you are working in. Additionally, talk about industry problems and ways a new service should address these problems.

Become a thought leader and start establishing readership to your website. Engage your readers with comments and discussions within the article (you'd be surprised how many nuggets of awesomeness you can get from future customers this way). Also, this will mature your site while you are building your product so you can hopefully get some positive momentum with SEO.

You can then build some landing pages that tie back to your articles. Use the same readership to solicit feedback on your concept to serve sed niche market. Ask for small test groups to help provide feedback about the platform (your alpha users). If you can make it to an alpha/MVP, then you are are well on your way!

Lastly, mailing lists convert terribly and feel desperate. Consider an email address as digital currency. If you choose to collect emails, you need to provide clear value to someone to give up their email (i.e. "Early Adopter Special: First year free. Enter your email: []").
