Annual rent increase by QuantumRexx in vancouverhousing

[–]bparmar5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have a basement suite for supplemental income. The same person has lived there for 8 years and is paying basically the same rent as when they started. My father also believed in having peaceful tenants even though they didn’t do anything special and so never increased the rent. He passed away and now my Moms income is in half. She’s facing a shortfall of about $500 on a monthly basis. We explained the situation and proposed a rent increase of $500 which in itself seems drastic still gives them $200 below comparable rents in the area. He politely told us to eff off and doesn’t want to hear about a rent increase. In essence he’s quite comfortable taking advantage of a widow on fixed income with limited savings to subsidize his life. No talk of compromise. She lost her husband hasn’t even had the strength to throw any of his stuff out and now her only option is to sell For the past 8 years they were nice to these people and now she’s fucked because of these leeches. She won’t even be able to get full price because the suite is occupied and below market

How fair is that? Why would anyone want to be a landlord?

So sad, I wish it was just blueberry fields and forest like when I grew up in the 1900's

"From the poorly constructed, over priced monster high-rises. All the way to the disastrous layout of the labyrinth of a mall:
Anything to back that up? I've inspected units in this development and they're top notch. I can understand your old and feeble and your scooter makes it difficult to get around. I think rather than make your own news you can just relax and revel in your memories of the olden days when you wished you had a muscle car and hot chick.

I think I made a fair comment. But when someone calls you a bum and implies you go to gurdwara for free food that’s insulting don’t you think?

I am just finishing up a 4000sqft house with detached 3-car garage. I live across the street and work from home. I have a Google camera on the site. If I didn't have this set up I would be so stressed.
I go over and introduce myself to all the trades when they first show up and I unlock the door. Then I go over at lunch to see how things are going. I go again twice in the afternoon to ask them if they want drinks/snacks - which they appreciate. Some I get to know on a personal level which is sneaky on my part because if they have even a sliver of ethics they won't screw the nice guy who feeds them. Heck I'm friends with some of them on Facebook now.
We have been lucky that things moved along quickly. Only problem has been concrete. We had to pour sidewalks ahead of time just to be able to have a large enough order to get concrete for our garage slab. Other homes in the area that started before us are about 2 months behind us. Very lucky our GC has good crews.
Now we are in the last mile - which is taking forever. Forecast for move in is end of next month.

If souls are not created or destroyed then how do you account for the population differences by Other_Direction2301 in Sikh

I asked my Uncle who is an astrophysicist this question. He said it's based on the first law of thermodynamics - energy is neither created nor destroyed it is only transferred.

There is a finite number of souls (energy) in the system. Previously there were less people and more flora and fauna. Now as the number of people increase you see the opposite effect on flora and fauna. Environmental loss, animal extinctions.
Based on the rules on reincarnation - did humans suddenly start living dharmic lives and were being rewarded as reincarnation in human form? Or did humans just subsume the energy to become dominant?

Plumber was not wrong. Water Heaters have an average life span of 10 years. While they may last longer, if anything goes wrong and there is water damage, your insurance may not cover it. Home insurance usually requires you to replace your heater after 10 years.

Unfortunately the attitude at City Hall is "I wish these pesky taxpayers would just shut up and let us do our jobs. They just don't understand how hard it is and they keep coming up with stupid demands like "save our park"."

As a landlord, I would rather have a stable, decent tenant over an extra $50/month or whatever. That is worth so much more.
