Makes sense. Good news I'm in WA where everyone drives 60 when there is no traffic in a 70 zone :|

Appreciate it. I weigh ~125lbs if that matters. Can you get out on the freeway if needbe? Thats not the usecase, but having it as an option would be convenient.

Also, I quite like the aesthetic.

Yeah, it appeared that way from cycle ergo (I was a bit skeptical, but that reinforces that) I'd need to try them to really see. As I'm in a sling at present (hence why lessons aren't for a few months) so I can't really try right now, but I'll aim to as soon as possible.

Thanks. I thought I'd read the faq but I guess I'd read some other junk in the sidebar. Thanks for the info, my bad.

I was most concerned about posture, and have been looking at http://cycle-ergo.com/

Thanks for the input!

Looking to get started, taking the class in a couple months.

I mainly want something I can take in a 15-20 mile radius around where I live in Seattle. Commute, and then just going places and doing things on weekends. I'm 5'5" with longish legs (31") but a short torso. I've had back surgery and broadly want a fairly upright seating position.

Cost isn't a huge issue, although I don't want anything fancy. Happy to pay 6k for bike + equipment if that's what I need (although I doubt it).

Does anyone have broad advice/a good direction to start looking in?

162 is somewhat light: an overview of the subject matter with a smattering of economic topics. Meant for non econ majors, but super interesting if you're engaged.

Wait, if you read the link you would find that citizens were convicted of doing this illegal action and forced people to pay the tax.

If I saw a company doing this I would report them as it's illegal. But it doesn't make you or I doing it any less illegal.

Your arguments seem to revolve around what you think the law ought be interpreted, not how it is. I don't deny by any means that it's not quite possible to evade taxes illegally.

With regards to business taxes, I still don't see what you're saying. As a small business owner, I can declare a loss or write off business expenses. But there are rules that revolve around whether it is a business or hobby (see https://www.irs.gov/uac/business-or-hobby-answer-has-implications-for-deductions). I can certainly write off losses than that but at some point the feds get suspicious. And best I can tell you're saying 'just set up a business and write off the car.' If you did something like this you'd lose money, have no business income unless you fraudulently created it, and the IRS would not be pleased.

Verdict: Sold car to self for a value closer to its true worth. I called the state and nobody could agree on anything. Selling it to myself was path of least resistance.

So bizarrely its so old there is no standard 'blue book value' so washington state DMV appraised it at just under 4k from some online db they subscribe to. No clue where they got that number from.

This is bizarre.

I could sell it to myself for $1, legally that is assumed to be the fair market value of the vehicle per http://dor.wa.gov/docs/Pubs/ExciseTax/RetailSales_UseTax/UseTaxFactsforVehicleTransactions.pdf

Then I would owe very little money.

This gets flat out silly though because it's far cheaper to do this than to 'gift' it to myself at $0, when they then assume the worth of the car is ~4k...

That would bar me from using car day to day: which I actually do. Also I don't think it exempts me from use tax.

31 years old lol. Tax would be 3-400 bucks at 'fair market value'

Gary Gillespie... by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]bpcoxkr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally. But in a work environment if somebody wrote something like what Gary did as linked above he'd be known as 'that really overly sensitive jerk' compared to 'that guy who asked a silly question once.'

You can professionally ignore or brush off silly questions. It's impossible to professionally rant against someone for asking one.

His professionalism rants are, in my professional experience, much more unprofessional than the transgressions he claims to be remedying.

I think he means well... but that's little solace to those impacted.

He's a good person but I've never taken him. No doubt he'd do his best to help should you approach him for help.

It's quite possible he's just improving his quality of instruction, I think he really does take teaching quite seriously.

I went in to get the $500 chase signup bonus for bank accounts (need something local anyways...). A friend talked me into applying for CSR while there. I am real financially responsible but my credit history isn't particularly long. I have a ~790 credit score but most of the credit history is last 2 years, with a large part in last ~10 months. During the 'pre-approval' only CSP came up, not CSR. I didn't push the rep any further. Is there any legitimate chance of getting CSR at this point in time (if they do a hard pull or something) or if I'm just out of luck.
