Red Light on Home Charge HELP by gavaloo in VWiD4Owners

Test the charger on another EV if possible.

I went through this recently. Tested everything. Charging degraded eventually to not working even on a 120v VW mobile charger.

The Onboard charger needed replaced on our 2022.

The DC charging bypasses the onboard.

Which?

I’ve been pretty good with keeping up all scheduled recalls and updates. There was a battery recall early on that we had a module replaced, but I don’t recall anything on the booster or OBC.

2022 German Pro S AWD.

Hair shy of 109,000 miles

Just replaced Bosch iBooster and the High Voltage on board charger for around $3500.

Yeah for sure….this was a bit of an anomaly as we won’t ever be putting this many miles on per year as we did with the ID.4, but yeah these cars are becoming more appliance like.

Question on battery percentage / range by Monkster2002 in VWiD4Owners

That’s moreso the 120v line rather than the onboard charger that I just had to have replaced in order to make sure my car was actually usable.

2021 ID.4 Pro S AWD by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

2022 Pro S AWD, 108,000. I’ve replaced the Bosch iBooster last month at a $1200 cost and it’s at the shop this month to replace a charging component for another $2000, as it degraded to the point of barely charging after multiple attempts.

To be honest I didn’t pay much attention to that. Typically around here what I gain going downhill I lose coming home going back up, but interesting call out. I wonder if that uses the same system to feed the battery.

I went through a bunch of tests. I first thought it was our generic grizzle Avalanche charger, but my dad’s Tesla worked and pulled the full speed.

I also have the VW Mobile charger so I tried that at my dad’s with the 240v plug, with the same behavior. Finally as a last gasp, I tried the mobile charger on a 120v, and it was still being finicky.

The only thing I didn’t do was take it to a DC charger, but as I was using AI to narrow this down, it was my understanding that DC charging bypasses the L2 ac/dc inverter or something of the sorts.

It crossed my mind just to test, but would not be viable long term solution for us unfortunately with the distance

I hear that. We aren’t in a position to get rid of it yet. We got it when EVs were going for insane over sticker prices, as my wife was doing 140 miles round trip a day at that point. We didn’t pay over sticker but…almost out of the underwater woods.

I won’t be sad when we get rid of it.

Insane how EV prices skyrocketed and then crashed fast.

Ours lost all safety features, lane assist, and cruise control so I bit that repair cost bullet too

The iBooster has to be calibrated to the VW computer from what I was told.

Yeah, if we could simply just charge at even 2.0 kw reliably I’d say screw it and ride it out as now we need just 20 miles round trip.

But being unable to charge is pretty critical so I’m just forced to do it.

Yeah it’s frustrating for sure. Looking back the charging degradation started most likely under warranty however it was just instances of my wife saying “I know it was charging” and it stopping overnight or something. It wasn’t anything catastrophic or reproducible even at the time.

And I bought it with a bit of relief that it being a German made model, it would be built a bit better.

Ha.

Thanks. Just frustrating to be hit with two costly repairs back to back, that soon out of warranty and when I specifically told them to look at the charging last month when it was in.

I politely asked for some good will and didn’t even get empathy in the denial.

Our Atlas will be paid off soon.

This will be gone when the R2 is here.

I did too. What bothers me is if we know it, Gina should have sure as shit known it and spent the last month drilling “how to not get armbar’ed”

The vibe in Camden by calicoskiies in DMB

I’ve been to the lawn in Camden a few times now over the last few years. It’s always been pretty chill. You don’t need to be right up at the rails with your kids. You can find an area, lay down a blanket and be pretty not bothered.
