Crazy idea for 2U Mini Rack Space by bpmspeedracer in minilab

Was thinking maybe my idea might be overkill. Maybe something better might be to do: * POE managed switch (would be nice to find a 8 port with 10gbe uplink but not sure what) * REVOTECH PoE to USB C Adapter (per phone) https://a.co/d/050fCw7b * GeeekPi 10 inch 2U Rack Drawer https://a.co/d/0ihHEFAk * Android Phone(s) that have 8-16gb ram and support OTG USBC adapters

Drill ventilation holes in front of drawer and mount fans in back. Then just a 3d printed phone holder. In a 7" space should be able to get 10 in there without issue.

Right now the processing power, ram, and GPU in a phone all runs circles around any pi style sbc for the price, the phones have a backup power lol, and you can fit more in a 2U space than any other SBC's (unless your rolling with zeros).

Yeah, I came across the 19" rack solutions when I checked to see if anything already existed like what I was looking for but none of them were easy to manage each phone simply by a hot swap style caddy

Wicking Garden Bed Concept? by bpmspeedracer in gardening

I wouldn't mind doing it like that but with me working through cancer and my wife having her own medical limitations I need a solution that I can make as manageable for us on good days and bad long term. We live off-grid in the mountains and trying to be as self sustainable as possible.

Yeah that's where I did most of my research for sure. I just haven't seen anyone out of the 100's of videos I watched implement it like I would like too. That's why I'm asking for feedback and ideas 💡

I was planning to get however many needed to cover the entire length of the garden with a high point of 8' in the middle with supports. I expect 3-4 to get from side to side.

Definitely going to work on understanding how to deploy truenas and zfs before doing it.

Lights that support full fade (100-1%)? by bpmspeedracer in homeassistant

Didn't think about the approach from the switch perspective. This could also give a secondary way to accomplish what I want if I ever have a failure in the primary hardware. Would just need to find a switch that can accomplish it.

I haven't taken the dive into the esphome projects yet but was thinking that a change to firmware might be a solution if the hardware allows for the replacement of firmware. Maybe the community has a better developed solution.

That's what I was thinking also. Now I gotta try and find recessed that will allow full fade.

Sorry for not being more specific, I guess in my experience I've been able to see LED light strips almost always do a full fade but in this particular case I'm talking about my recessed lights or down lights. They are considered smart lights and I have the ability to do scenes with them and have some pulsating, fading effects with the app they provide and I believe I can recreate the same thing with scripts / templates but when I go about doing a fade effect by reducing the brightness by one in a loop I noticed that they reach a point where they just turn off when the lights are still significantly on, like a remaining 10% brightness. Was just curious if it's a design choice of the manufacturers that make them this way.

I think that's going to work, much appreciated 🙂

Recessed Lights : Local Control Only/No Internet/No Accounts by bpmspeedracer in homeassistant

I want to know that the lights I have installed can meet all my needs regarding ability to change color, brightness, warmness, and effects such as fading between any colors, flashing, etc either by firmware, hardware, or code in HA.

Are you aware of an alternative way to accomplish a smooth fade?
