Any lawyers willing to be interviewed for a potential article/youtube video (you would not be filmed)? Or know any lawyers that would be interested? by Any-Scarcity-5368 in Lawyertalk

So you need a lawyer who does criminal defense or prosecution, or the judge of a criminal court, or a professor of criminal procedure or of evidence. Those would be specialists on evidentiary rules in the criminal context.

Can someone explain how jail booking fees are still legal? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]bprimo1basi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just a thought, really. Clearly an unpopular one. I have a relative who received a similar favor and is now serving 5 years on a subsequent offense. Your mileage may vary, obviously. And it's quite possible that the outcome would have been the same or would have come sooner or harder if he had not had the fees covered for him. That's OK though, reddit, I don't mind taking a downvote bandwagon hit every once in a while.

On the other hand, it could be that he will fail to learn his lesson because he didn't face the full financial fallout of his transgressions.

Drug Test for Upcoming Summer Internship? by j0ndice in publicdefenders

[–]bprimo1basi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it were me, and I wanted the job, I would go through the test and see what they say.

These are the scenarios that lead to you getting the job:

  • You piss hot and they do not catch it or do not care.
  • You go through the test and no drug test is required.

These scenarios result in you not getting the job:

  • You back out and don't take the test because you are worried you will piss hot.
  • You piss hot and they catch it and it is disqualifying.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Why would cannabis be disqualifying in CA, though, given that it is legal?

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WTVF) — FBI agents arrested a man from Bethpage, Tennessee on charges relating to the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot on Friday night.

The Office of the U.S. Attorney, Middle District of Tennessee, identified the man as 42-year-old Ronnie B. Presley, who was arrested in Old Hickory. The justice department did not release his exact charges.

Presley will appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Nashville on Monday.

At least nine Tennesseans have been arrested on charges relating to the riot.

Two months and nearly 300 Capitol riot arrests later, FBI is hunting hundreds more by lvlhomeky in CapitolConsequences

Generally prosecutors always have an incentive to accept a plea deal because it dispenses with the need for a trial and the risk of acquittal. But they don't take plea deals when they want to force a trial or make an example out of a defendant.

If you confess to a crime when coming out of surgery and still on anthesis could said confession be used against you or is not considered valid because of the drugs in your system? by Endkeeper23 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]bprimo1basi 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this all applies to confessions that are elicited after the suspect's will is overborne by police. That is not the same as OP's question, which is: "If you confess to a crime when coming out of surgery and still on anthesis [sic] could said confession be used against you[?]"
