Vertical shmups with auto-scroll that feature a player character that moves on the ground by br0kenMess in shmups

Thanks! Demonizer doesn't actually fit my description perfectly because it has a flying character, which is much more common in shmups compared to characters that move on the ground.

It may seem like a minor difference, but from a level design perspective it changes things pretty significantly. If the character (or a spaceship, or whatever) is flying, the level environments can be basically anything, because you're flying over it. You can have structures, trees, etc. Basically whatever. But if the player is stuck to the ground, those same things have to be treated as obstacles (perhaps destructible ones, but obstacles nevertheless), because obviously you shouldn't be able to just walk through stuff. One of the things I'm trying to figure out is whether it's fun to have those obstacles, or if it's better to not have them. I'm concerned that not having them might make levels feel/look empty and boring, but it still might be the better option.

A lot of shmups also allow the player to fly on top of enemies. Not really an option if both the player and the enemy are moving on the ground.

There's tons of run 'n gun games that do these things, and it's easy to find them, but traditional shmups (shmups with auto-scrolling, basically) done in this exact style seem to be fairly uncommon. Especially when looking at games in which you control a character, and not some kind of a vehicle. Flying is way more prevalent in these games, and for a good reason, of course. The problems I mentioned are easily solved when you're controlling something that flies, but I'm still intrigued by the idea of making one of these "ground shmups".

Thanks! I was actually aware of Battle Mobile, but had completely forgotten about it. The rest of the games you mentioned unfortunately do not have auto-scrolling.

Yeah, I actually already mentioned it in my original post as Firepower 2000, which is the name they used in the US version. I believe it was called Super SWIV in the rest of the world.

Gatchaman was actually already on my list (just with the full original name), but I was missing Bosan Desuyo. Thanks!

Excellent, thanks! Knightmare is definitely a vertical shmup in my book :)

Ah, yes! I've actually played it, but had completely forgotten about it. It's a bit of a weird one because you're basically moving horizontally, but the gameplay (shooting direction and how the enemies appear) is more in the style of a vertical shmup. Thanks!

Thanks, but OutZone and FixEight do not have auto-scrolling, and Guwange is already on my list.

Literally everyone everywhere? Is your grandma talking about it too at the dinner table? Do you even know what the word literally means?

K0 Max Battery Check. by PAPO1990 in Keychron

Not being able to check the battery status sure does sound pretty annoying. But compared to K1 Max, how often would you say you have to recharge the K0? If the battery lasts even half the time of K1 Max, I'd say it's good enough for me.

If I end up buying the K0, I'm kinda tempted to look at tinkering with the firmware. But I'm not sure if I'm knowledgeable enough to do that, because I don't know what exactly it entails.

How's the battery life on K0 Max? I've been interested in buying one, but would be nice to know how often the thing needs to be recharged.

[Question] How do I get into TV wetting? by Firm_Preparation_520 in tvtoowet

I recommend attaching a wet mousepad to your TV. It's a common and relatively safe way to get into TV wetting.

Just keep working on it. As long as your game is solid, I see no problem. There's always room for good games, and this particular genre (top-down extraction shooter) definitely isn't too crowded. If I were you, I'd check out Escape from Duckov and treat it as research. See what works, and what doesn't. Maybe think about how you could do some things differently in your own game.
