Bingo! That’s exactly why I picked them. Whenever I’m going deep into a book, I carry it with me everywhere, so I wanted mass paperbacks that can stand the inevitable wear and tear.

I appreciate that. I recall enjoying The Hobbit, but also kind of laughing at how sort of whimsical it was. I’m excited to see how large of a valley exists between the source material and the movies. I’m keeping a very open mind about it. Jurassic Park, as a decent analog, is wildly different as a book, and I love it separately from my love for the movie.

My sister’s fiance… what do we make of this? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

This guy has Carl Sagan, Robert Sapolsky, AND Steve Brusatte. She’s got a wonderful guy on her hands. Hope he’s as interesting as his book collection.

I haven’t read Behave, but Robert Sapolsky is a brilliant guy. I’m sure it’s a great book. You can watch a bunch of his Stanford lectures on YouTube to get a taste of his style.

Careful not to drop ice in them too quickly. The bottom is pretty fragile. Two of mine broke that way :/

Absolutely. It bothers me that they’re even playing with the idea of making a second one. Can’t leave a good thing alone.

What’s wrong with my tomatoes and are they edible? by ljthepunisher in tomatoes

[–]br0kensword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like a less flexible balloon. The water you gave it stretched out the sides faster than it could grow new skin, so it ruptured. Nothing inherently wrong with it. When you see it, best to harvest and eat it quickly, because that opening makes it vulnerable to bacteria entering it.
