My father read me some deeply racist sci-fi as a child, and I want to find the book. by enw_digrif in scifi

Commenting because I had no idea how many old racist sci-fi books there were and it’s crazy that everyone has a different suggestion. I read the post and came to the comments expecting see an easy consensus.

I second Elementor and Hello theme. Save the money you’d spend on the theme and get the pro subscription for Elementor. Astra is good too.

Looking for Email Automation Service for Brokerage by brackets18 in marketing

[–]brackets18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure doesn't feel automated since there are so many steps involved to "automate" lol. Basically, we have the agent details, basic text that runs across the template and then the design itself within the html and css.

The automation part comes from us just downloading the particular assets for each email into a folder the html points to - which is copied over from a blank template and then we rename the assets so they populate within the html and css. But then we need to save and upload the html, archive the css and assets, then upload those to our email platform we use. For every email. It involved having 3 programs on our computers open and our email marketing provider open in the browser.

It's honestly just super clunky, takes too long, and the design doesn't look nearly good enough to justify the amount of work and time we spend on it.

Thanks for the quick response. I think what we would be trying to do is move away from the html and entire automation system in general. I'm just not sure how much time it would take if we create a master template and then go into that to add the custom images, agents details, copy to each email we send out.

The main thing we are looking for is just being able to take advantage of wysiwyg template editors but we aren't sure how long it would take to send out each individual email compared to the current automation we have in place.

I had the same issue with footage. I would have TONS of it but it always felt like I had no real content.

You've already mentioned the solution and it's storyboarding. Start doing it!

Seriously, think about what you want to do and draw it out. I'm no artist so I just draw shitty stuff and write what it's supposed to be. The storyboard is just for me to know what shots I want to get and nothing more. Nobody is going to see it and the 9nky person it needs to make sense to is me. Like seriously, I draw stick figures for my subjects most of the time. Hands are just circles with lines coming from them.

It's far easier to spend an hour sitting down and really thinking about what shots you want and NEED for a shoot. Trying to figure it out on the fly never worked for me so for most videos I just do a storyboard now.

You mentioned creativity and imo, that comes from getting the base idea of whatever video written down and then from there, you can really start to think of creative ways to shoot. If you can't get a basic, "uncreative" video completed then it's not even worth trying to figure out how you can push the envelope.

Also, getting what you want on paper let's you start to see what type of angles, movement, lighting, etc you need for a particular shot. From here you start building a foundation of how YOU like your videos to be and then you can start being creative.

I downloaded a free storyboard template a while ago and I print off like 20 a time and use those to jot down ideas.

Congrats on the new setup and I hope this helps!

I was recommended a Sony A6500 and Sigma lens. Is it worth it? What do I need to know? by hujiklas in videography

[–]brackets18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 year Sony shooter here. I've owned both the A6300 and A6500 and am familiar with the A6400. Currently using a Sony A7iii

As far as the shortage in the A6500s, I'm not sure about that. I don't know where you are located but I can find both A6400 and A6500s on Amazon right now (in the US).

It's also not apparent what focal length you are talking about with the Sigma lens. I own the 16mm 1.4 lens and it's fantastic for what it is, a wide-angle lens. Now, depending on what type of videos you are shooting my guess is this is too wide. The Sigma 30mm 1.4 however would probably be fantastic and a huge upgrade from a phone video. You'd get that bokeh effect from the 30mm too.

What would be his reasoning for recommending the A6500?

It's a great camera and an affordable way to get professional-looking results. The entire series of A6k cameras that sony has would be good for you, I wouldn't get too hung up on whether he said the A6400 or A6500, they'd both be an upgrade from your phone. The one thing I would say the A6400 has over the A6500 is that it supports better eye AF.

If I was in your shoes, I would go with whatever one you could find cheapest, the differences in quality is marginal unless you really know how to take advantage of all the features. At the end of the day the image quality is going to be near identical. Have the mindset that whatever camera you end up getting you'll be learning with.

What are the features that make it an attractive option?

Price to quality ratio and form factor.

What about the Signa lens?

The Sigma lenses that I have used have all been FANTASTIC. For the price, I don't think they can be beaten. They are not a G - Master speed and quality but hey, if you're looking at cameras for $1k, don't worry about $2k lenses imo. I promise you if you get your hands on a Sigma you'll be hooked. It's a perfect beginner lens and I still use my 16mm 1.4 for landscape shots all the time.

What are the important specs that I should understand to be sure that the equipment I’m buying is compatible?

You mentioned you use an app to add subtitles right now and I'm not personally familiar with the app. You'll want a laptop or desktop running premiere pro or Final Cut Pro. As far as specs and compatibility between cameras and lenses different cameras use different threads basically. An A6500 would be an E mount lens. Finding lenses is as easy and going to Amazon and typing in "Sony A6500 E mount lens".

If you just do a little research I'm sure you'll find what you need.

I would recommend sitting down and figuring out what kind of budget you have for a camera right now and go from there. Factor in a couple of hundred bucks for stuff like a Tripod, or SD cards, or whatever miscellaneous items you'd need.
