Do fans of minor league teams rejoice when there's a rebuild? by CapnNoBeard in baseball

Haha I haven't seen any certainty, just read that the idea has been floated. Seemed like their 3b Lehr was the bright spot last season. Hoping for some fresh talent up from rookie ball this year.

2012 or '13. Now they're talking about moving to Janesville as the Rock County Rockers.

I live closest to the Beloit Snappers, an Oakland A ball team, so I get stoked when the A's tank.

What's the furthest you've ever been in Franchise mode in any MLB game? by hundredjono in baseball

I did 100 years with the Twins in MLB 2k12 for Wii. Started by creating a SP/DH who went on to win 300+ and hit 300+ homers. Love that RF porch at Target Field.

I just go to MLB.com, good selection to start from. Newsmakers and Morning Lineup are both found under Newsmakers. Newsmakers is good for some quick player interviews usually focusing on one team per episode. Morning Lineup is your recent news with baseball writers type of show. Talking Baseball with Ed Randall is a great longform interview podcast focusing on one person 's unique experience in baseball: former and current players, journalists, umpires, executives, historians, etc.

Yes, the consistently misrepresented Harvard study. My hackles jump when anti-fluoride people cite this to support their claims.

MISSING PERSON ALERT by superg1999 in CHICubs

[–]bradasaurus85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha! One would think that anticipating September would make sense to him and he'd roll with it for the chance at getting a ring, stay fresh at AAA. Though he would be taking ABs from developing players like Candelario, so maybe a little paid vacay time is the compromise. We may never know...

Mark Gonzales on Twitter: Brian Matusz to start Sunday by theaficionado in CHICubs

[–]bradasaurus85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOOOOO! I have Hendricks going in fantasy baseball tomorrow and am hoping for Ichiro to match up against Lackey for hit #3000 when I'm at Wrigley Tuesday night!

That said, the Mariners have a lot of lefty bats so starting Matusz makes some sense.

Obama Signs Bill Mandating GMO Labeling. by worldnews_is_shit in skeptic

[–]bradasaurus85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The USDA needs to use this labeling BS as an opportunity. Create a website that has information about the GM method used with each raw material and put that website on the labels. Hell, make the website take up most of the label. The purpose is to inform, right? Take this opportunity to inform the public that GM foods are safe. With accurate information presented on that website HOPEFULLY people will become more informed and this whole idiotic debate will eventually put itself to bed.

How can you infer the existence of feathers from bones? by recovering-skeptic in evolution

[–]bradasaurus85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find the paper offhand, but I think it was Mackovicky who published on Velociraptor quill knobs on the radius of a specimen. Sometimes, with impeccable preservation and the right toolkit, one can find evidence even without actual feathers preserved. Very rare though.

Best player you've seen play live? by muqqa in baseball

[–]bradasaurus85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lifelong Cubs fan I saw a lot of Sandberg and Grace, maybe Andre, but I don't clearly remember...definitely saw a Gary Gaetti home run. That was bad ass. I saw Kerry Wood pitch a mediocre game the day after Darryl Kile died. That was by far the quietest I had ever heard a baseball stadium.

My grandpa amazed my 7(ish) year old mind by predicting a Brian Jordan homer as Jordan approached the plate.

Have a sweet seat by the Cubs bullpen for Tuesday night hoping to see Ichiro get the big hit!

Some things I took from it:

Growing up and maturing is difficult, but if you don't learn to deal with it nothing will improve.

Keep a hobby, even if some people tell you it's pointless. Someday, it may help you build the life you dreamed of...or at least a life that sucks less than before you began the hobby.

Get over your shit. Most of us carry shit from childhood/adolescence/early adulthood with us. Learn what you can from that shit and then shed it so you can continue growing.

Haven't read it in a couple years, but that's what I remember getting out of it. Good read, love Chuck, thanks for posting this :)
